I was/am a fan of z.ai’s GLM models as a drop in replacement for Claude. But they more than doubled their prices recently. Still a ok alternative, but not really an amazing deal anymore.
I've tried out gpt-oss:20b on a MacBook Air (via Ollama) with 24GB of RAM. In my experience it's output is comparable to what you'd get out of older models and the openAI benchmarks seem accurate https://openai.com/index/introducing-gpt-oss/ . Definitely a usable speed. Not instant, but ~5 tokens per second of output if I had to guess.

I don't think that is the case most of the time. If anything, suffering makes people more likely to be sympathetic. For instance: people with low incomes, and those without private healthcare are more likely to support socialized healthcare in the United States.[1] These are the people most likely to have been stuck with ruinous healthcare bills.

It's pretty close. Ammoseek shows 9mm starting at ~$0.30 per round, and most other popular pistol calibers starting at ~$0.40 to ~$0.45 per round. And it's easy to find better deals if you're checking the r/gundeals subreddit periodically. That puts 2000 rounds of 9mm at around the gross income weekly income for someone earning $15/hour.

For what it's worth; I banked with Simple for the better part of 10 years, but then they acquired by BBVA who was then acquired by PNC. No. There is difference between a little rush job, and an incompetent rush job. I’m only speaking for my own experience, but when put under pressure most competent teams don’t end up throwing away such important data. I’ve been incompetent for most of my career, but it’s given the serious of task this is inexcusable. I don’t know how things work elsewhere, but checking that the same number of unique records(by some composite key) are ingested as exported isn’t an advanced concept. Know the value of the data you’re handling. Marketing data <> health data. If health data doesn’t line up: you figure out why and solve it. If you don’t have anyone available to do so then the problem is managerial/structural.
Excel tops out a little more over a million rows without specifically handling of larger files. I’m not sure excusing it, just a heads up to all the junior analysts out there who haven’t dealt with the problem(not implying you’re a junior analyst, just wanted to point something out to those who aren’t familiar with the issue).
Many pay-to-use(coin or card) laundry rooms in apartment complexes are entirely contracted out to a third party company that handles everything; payment collection, machine leasing, service/repairs, etc. On the whole I think it's easier for them this way.

The most popular, recently released RTS I can think of is Factorio. It seems like RTS game elements have been splitting into their constituent parts and forming a game around those.(e.g. production to Factorio, or combat to DOTA) It may be that way there’s a greater ROI on smaller/simpler games than building out all the components involved in an RTS game.

If you're going Postgres to Postgres I enthusiastically recommend Bucardo.[1] I'm not very technical, but even I managed to get an ~1TB DB successfully replicating using it. In my case it was going from AWS RDS to AWS Aurora. Previously others had tried AWS DMS, but we kept having data integrity issues. And DMS cost us significantly more than Bucardo whose only cost was a medium size EC2 instance and data in/out.
The iPhone 6 and beyond are too big for my tastes. I reluctantly upgraded to an iPhone 7 after destroying my SE. Even after owning the 7 for over a year, I find it uncomfortably large at times.
I agree that this should just be everyday normality. However there seems to be wave of recent popular articles and essays about an epidemic of loneliness. I think essays like this can serve as a positive example of how to interact with/behave towards others and hopefully try to improve social well-being. It’s certainly not the end, but I like to think it can help.
It’s a poetic statement not a literal one. It speaks to the aspirational idea of what America could and should be/aspire to be.( in the mind of the writer)
