Can you solve this in general without doing integer linear programming? How else would you know how to find the lowest index greater than the current? In the field GF(2), using 0 might not minimize.

Would flac work for compression? Given the weather data is a time series of numbers it could be represented as audio. It would then automatically do the difference encoding thing you’re doing.

If you encoded nearby grid cells as audio channels, flac would even handle the correlation like it does for stereo audio.

For a read-dominated access pattern that sounds quite interesting.

I'd rather have my app and databases servers together, and let a separate CDN like Cloudfront handle cacheable responses and assets. Much simpler than trying to distribute the application itself.

The applications I work on do several database calls for single user HTTP request. Shouldn't the application server be as close as possible to the database, rather than to the user? I struggle to think of an example where your model is useful, unless your application has no database.

Yes, user is a reserved word and `SELECT user` gives you the current database user. Notice how in the create table "user" is quoted, because it would be a syntax error otherwise. If you quote the same way in the select it will give you the user column, not the user reserved word:

    select "user", password from users;
