Sounds like the start of a plan. My questions would be around those 10 minutes at the entry door. What do we do with people? How are they connected to the test? How do we keep separation between people? How do we grant access after the passed test? What happens to those around if someone is +ve?
At this time of year, this one is always worth reading again.

No argument with the premise or results. That said, if I were to advise a 16 yo self, I would include consideration for skilled trades. A plumber/electrician/hvac specialist with decent business/accounting/bookkeeping skills can pretty much write their own ticket past apprenticeship.

I can only think of the value of your list of active customers. That's a targeted bunch ... and you already what they have and, perhaps more importantly, what they don't have. Press on!
Here's my generalization ... CS students aspire to be good architects, self-taught aspire to be good programmers. The caveat - experience and aptitude combine to blur the groups.

Read about him a year or 2 ago in National Geographic ... bothered me then as now that he was referred to as "Batman". He's clearly Daredevil.
The last 2 articles I read were this one and the earlier piece on Google and neural nets [1]. It's easy to connect the two, add the pervasive integration of technology in our lives, mix in a healthy dose of paranoia --> see a SkyNet future.

I keep reading the lego comparisons but i think that's staying a little too inside the box. Block for block, if you will. A better comparison is "Minecraft is the digital equivalent of playing in the sandbox".
Thing is, for people who can understand its benefits (which are great) it is hard not to advocate. I remember the father of a friend in grade school giving advice to learn languages (spoken languages). He knew a few and obviously witnessed the benefit for life and business. 20 years later, that was good advice.
I always find these kinds of projects interesting ... then inevitably I'm reminded that having a server is a playground and can be fun. NGINX is easy (for 80 of 80/20 part anyway). SFTP/SSH too.
I really really want to like ddg, but I can't seem to get away from a need to !g. Further, though its obviously a loss in privacy, the quality in search results returning from a "context aware" google is just leaps better. Its a trade-off I guess. I know HN is very much in support of the primacy of privacy ... but there is no doubt search and ad relevancy goes down in anonymity.

Typing on an ideapad Y510p - its an excellent machine. I know that phones and tablets have the seat at the head table right now, but I can't imagine not having a laptop sitting on the kitchen table. Others seem to be dropping that ball ... or at least racing to the bottom. Lenovo laptops always seem a smart choice.

Understood. My point, probably vague, is two-fold:
(1) You need to be good enough at something to recognize smarter. You need to do the work. For most non-trivial efforts, this means harder.
(2) Smarter is a process, not a destination. Once you have leveled up to be able to work smarter, not harder you probably need to work harder at something deeper to keep growing.
I find the Work Smarter, Not Harder meme a little tiresome. How 'bout this - Work Smarter AND Harder. Focus on outputs as the only thing to brag about. Hours put in rarely impresses anyone of significance. Its about the output. Work Smarter, Not Harder is condescension masked as process advice. The truth of the matter is you need to put in the time (read: harder) to get good at just about anything. Only then is smarter an option, but drop the harder at your peril.
