I have been trying to convince my marketing department to replace there archaic wordpress with an Astro build with AstroCMS and markdown for there needs.

I have build several sites using Astro 6, and i am finding the ease of building the sites amazing and exceptional in SEO as well.

And what would you'r solution be? Take from them the houses they worked their whole lives to acquire and put them in elderly homes? They have paid their share to society by providing the taxes for 65+ years that they have worked and brought us where we are today. Those homes are not vanished from the market. They will be inherited by their children and so on. Land taxation is by my opinion inherently bad for that specific reason ( if they have only one piece of land )

The problem is that we are pilling into cities where land is minimal and thus the market works in supply and demand.

Hopefully as years pass, where remote work is more and more accessible you can be owning your own 1 euro or whatever home in any area and not worry about limited land.

I did try it with my picture. Very interesting results.

It definitely did find my picture but i cannot access all the ones that it has flagged for me as it is behind a paywall.

But most interesting is that it found a lot of people that we appear identical.

My pictures are already out there, so i used a random picture. If it found me then, no worrying in me uploading the picture as i am already in the system.

This not news. This has existed from the first iteration of Tesla Autopilots. That is why there where crashes with stationery vehicles for Tesla. This is shortcoming for using only cameras or any vehicle that has adaptive cruise control. The problem is that the front camera cannot distinguish from the road and a stationery vehicle. For that, they are the same and they ignore stationary obstacles. If they where taken into consideration, then they would not work at all.

This is where Lidar comes in but at its current price, or at price that Tesla was designing its system it was too expensive.

As far as i can find Lidl won the chain supermarket last year whiskey award while Aldi have just earned a Gold Medal at the 2018 Scotch Whisky Masters awards.

I was trying to understand how this was so much efficient and how did he manage to generate this will so little code. Where was his query retrievals ? Where did those classes magically appear. How did he retrieve the data so fast.

Then i read the first line, he is the CTO of Speedment.

So he had to add maven dependency to his project generate ton of code, to create his objects, retrieve all them and do the computation in the Speedment optimized functions.

So with his goal to use as less code as possible, he had to add third party library that added tons of code that he did not count in the lines of code that was written.

Seems a bit like self promotion and unfair to be honest.

The basic idea is that it is wasting time. But this is no longer a factor as the gear change is instantaneous with Automatic GearBox.

Electric cars do not have a gearbox and just have one rotor. This does place them in a disadvantage when starting though as there acceleration is affected. Formula E cars, have started using a 3 gearbox for their cars in order to have a faster start.

Although the iPhones might get updated for 5 years that does not make them fast. Each update makes the older device slower which at a point it becomes unusable. A 3 year old device just cant compare with the increase in features, how a newer device can.

But for Android, it all comes down to the provider. This has always been the issue. I have a Nexus 6 running 7.1 and working just fine. I could use it for another year if i wanted but it does show signals of getting old.

People used to change iphone every year as they did with Android. I believe that this is coming to an end and people will keep there phones longer as they become much more expensive (X:1100+, note8:1050, etc) and the increase in hardware is not that massive any more.

Although i believe that Universal basic income will one day be available to everyone, we simply are not ready for it yet. The full automation of jobs is still years and years away. When we start running out of jobs for people then our government might start considering it.

As i see it this experiments will have little effect in the whole idea of the UBI. If someone guarantees you an extra income for only a year, then you wont really change your whole life. You might do an extra trip, purchase something that you wanted but never could but nothing life changing.

Creating interplanetary projects like the one above are extemely expensive. As the ISS showed is that costed !150 billion USD to construct making massive leaps into space should not be burden to a single country. With that the funding would be less, and the return even smaller.

I believe a global space agency should be formed where each country can allocate the money they wish and set goals by panels to the direction that they wish to proceed. ( very hard i can assume ).

That will ease the financial burden of countries and create project on a global scale that will unite the world instead of finding new reasons be patriotic about.

Google is very serious against paywalls so anything coming from them is never hidden.

Unfortunately i have heard the same thing from CEO recently.

Hiring you people or people that are married with children so he can pay less and they wont leave as easily.

Coming for someone with the Nexus 6 as well, which i am incredibly happy with. I have wondered if it is worth making the jump and getting the Pixel as well.

Those phones are mostly the same. The Pixel XL is slightly smaller but offers a premium design and improvements in hardware, including a faster processor and more RAM.

Both offer pure Android, but the Pixel receives a handful of exclusive features.

At least for me, i believe that i will not switch phone for another year. Pixel is a bit overpriced at that range ( as iphones ). I expected it to be at least a bit cheaper.

Either i will wait a few months to see if the prices drops for the pixel or wait for the next year phone.

Although i have never though of actually write a language i can agree on those. Especially Minimizing keystrokes. I want the language to be verbose and easy to understand. Dealing with thousands of line trying to figure out what is going on there it is essential to easily pick up what is going on !

Assuming that a soldier has been captured by enemy forces and he has knowledge of vital information. What are the chances that using the implant they can "fry" the soldier brain to avoid giving the enemy those vital information ?

I have to disagree with having a company actually coming in and taking out everything that bloomberg has been building the past years. This is an extremely hard market to get it. Bloomberg is extremely dedicated at what they do and they do not take competition lightly. They do use there massive power to make the life of competition as hard as they can.

As for Bloomberg there terminal and all of the services that they provide is top notch. I have a lot of friction with all of there data, and this is by far the best i have worked with.

Although this idea i believe is great we are far from that. When we can automate most of the living standard and provide free stuff instead of money then we might be able to work for a small extra income to live out life the way we want it.

Meaning that when automation can create food for everyone, then it will be free. When we can create mass buildings with excellent living condition and be given to the people that want them.

Then you will be free to do whatever your heart desires.

But i believe that this is a long time into the future and our generation might never see this.

I would agree. It is definetely not the end of the "car age" Cars will live on for many years but as self-driving cars come into play, owning a car wont be a need any more. For your day to day activities you can take public transport and bike to work. For weekends that you want to do a trip with family/friends you will simply "hire" a car that will take you where you want to go.

I am excited about this future. Cars slowly being phased out for a more accessible city for the people. Taking back the roads from cars for bicycles and walking.

But that just might be me.

Well it all comes down to what bug holes you will release and what type of data you will be handling.

If you will be handling sensitive people information then you need to make sure that those are safe. Last thing you want is you new startup to be easily exposed and get a beating.

If someone might just game the site and get something that wont affect anyone else, then you might ignore the fix for a while.

But you should try and build whatever you are with a relative safety net. You cannot have bugs and holes in your system that will expose the system to hackers that will take over everything. Cause then it will be game over for you. No one will trust you afterwards.

I disagree here. It made me wonder how much more Tesla could have been with Googles power. As the article states, Elon Musk would keep on working on his project for 8 years with extra funding to create the same cars he is now.

If that was the case and with Googles money and power, they might had a better chance of creating a better car as well as adding self driving in the car much faster if we look at google car. ( offcourse that is still years away )

The problem here is not Microsoft. I am surface pro 3 owner and i have to say that is one of the best machines i have used. I wouldn't change it for anything. I agree that MS is heading in the right direction. The steps that they are taking are to my opinion great for everyone. I have been a linux user for almost 10 years and windows 10 might be the reason to switch back. We will see.

As for the driver issues, that is cause windows releases the software and then the hardware is provided by several companies which is up to them to not screw up there drivers. For apple they release one laptop and that is it. They only have to cater for that device which makes it a hell of a lot easier.

Windows 8, has made huge progress in every hardware aspect of the machine.

Most of these are hard to measure. It will come down to your own variables.

Interviews are a whole different world so I don't think that they test how much you have actually improve.

Creating your own products is a great way to improve your code. Learn about the system your want to design, create the database, write your services, do the UI and iterate. After a few failed products you'll understand that what ever your wrote until know it was crap and your code will be cleaner and better.

The best would be to contribute to open source projects. That way you have to study other peoples code. Understand it. Improve it. And then send your code for it to be reviewed and merged for the whole world. Off course it will always depend on how good the original author of the project is.

I can say that i was in your shoes several years ago when i joined my first company.

Coming straight out of Uni with a good CV i lacked work experience. Academic code and Work code is two completely different worlds !

So at my job for the first 1 - 2 years I sucked ! Really sucked. I was working as hard as i could, trying to figure everything out, and having several massive programs that we were working on it made it extremely hard. And as you, all the developer were each person for him self. Nobody bothered in giving me a bone to help me out. They just throw me to the wolves.

Every time i asked a question i got a vague answer and even some times some rude comments about asking that question !

A few years after i stick in there i am as good as all the other developers which at that time i though they were exceptional ! So yes, for the 2nd question. Developers hardly care for any one else. I have told my CTO that it was every man for him self for several years in my reviews. If someone helped me out a bit in the beginning it would have been up to speed from the first year.

So not only the star/ninja software developers have rotten attitudes but i would say that 90% of them dont care about the junior developer.

My recommendation, is that if you like your job, stick in it until you get good at it. And trust me you will. If you CTO tells you anything, just tell him it is impossible for someone to catch up with out the experienced developers help and that they are all for them selfs.

I wouldn't think about quitting. The next job will most probably be the same.

The demo is where everything happens. My front page still needs some work. Currently working on what exercises they have done for each appointment.

That is good. It is similar to what I have just build.

Mine is mostly dedicated to personal trainers, and offers a lot of functionality to them as well as a personal website with various information to there users.

All i need now is to start picking up the phone and contacting local trainers.

Having build a great SAS that is far superior than anything out there, trying to convince people to use it and keep on using it is extremely hard ! Making people pay for something is much harder than any piece of code that i wrote.

Unfortunately a great product isnt enough, that is why mediocre products with a great sales team success.

1 ) Do some serious marketing/sales on my SAS. Some very nice features there but my sales skills are lacking.

2 ) Build my house.

3 ) Develop the next SAS with a friend as opentable for my country.

4 ) Travel to Africa !
