While it looks like a slightly promising competitor to iOS and Android, if they don't lock down good pricing, it will fail. $1000 is just not a good price point when it comes to a tablet. I understand that this thing will support a full Windows environment, but honestly, I use my tablets to surf and play. If I want to run Photoshop or an IDE, it's going to be on my workhorse laptop.
Absolutely amazing how many of those reflect the design used in later models of the iPhone. Before the first was even made they had the 3G/3GS prototype, some that closely resemble the iPhone 4/4S and even the iPad. Absolutely awesome!

No one here to blame other than political agenda. I fully feel we could have been in preparation for a humanized mission to Mars at this point. However, we've wasted too much time funding war and whether or not abortion and gay marriage should be legal instead. It's actually quite sad.
This method has worked for me 3 times now. I turned down one of the opportunities. Not necessarily the best sample size, but the method shows very clearly that you intend to work for that company or at least that you are extremely interested in going the extra mile.
From personal experience, don't apply to any positions that don't reveal the company name in the post. You'll rarely get anywhere, and when you do it will likely not even pan out to being who you want to work for or the job that was described.
What I normally do is this:
Find a job that you find unique or intriguing. If it has a company name attached I immediately jump to LinkedIn to find who I may be working for and if it's the small company, I just look up the CEO.
At this point, I start following the CEO on Twitter (if they have one) and I find out what they are interested in and post about. I will now usually start engaging that person every now and then to make them put a name to a face. This also allows you to get an idea of the personality of the person you may be working for.
After a while, I'll put the question out there, "Hey I saw that you posted Foo job at your company. Has this position been filled? I'm extremely interested."
If they don't have Twitter, I'll engage them straight through LinkedIn. At this point I'll be straight upfront and honest. Just tell them that you are interested in finding out more information about the company before you formally apply for the job. When the time comes, try and get your resume straight to their personal email via this conversation.
Open up a line of dialog with someone who is posted the job. If it's an HR department, it may be tough, but not impossible. It's worth it in the long run to build up connections (even if their virtual) with people. Blindly applying to positions is just going to leave you in the dark.

In Orlando I'm paying $240 a month to get 40Mbps down / 5 up with a full channel lineup, plus Showtime and NHL Center Ice. So THIS would be a huge deal to people in my area where only one cable option exists in a lot of Central Florida.

Honestly, what would an Amazon branded Android experience bring to a smartphone? I suppose I could see why they released a tablet to support their Kindle line, but this doesn't make much sense to me.
They aren't even remotely winning in the tablet game either (<1% market penetration). The Nook is besting them for 4th place.
Obviously they make their money from their controlled store / experience, but does that make up for the difference in R&D and production costs yet?

Honestly, if applied broad spectrum (pedestrians, passenger vehicles, etc) what is the legality of what I conceal on my person or in the privacy of my car? What if I'm in a public space and I have a concealed weapon but a permit to do so? How do the differentiate in that situation?
I really don't like this at all. I love how the company making this product is called 'American Science & Engineering' and if this is applied on a street level it's one of the most un-American things I've seen.
Stuff like this makes me sad about where this country is heading.
Like HP is really in a position here to call shots? Clearly they are reallllly successful with the tablet industry.
Anyone else think it's stupid that they've released a supplemental piece of hardware at $299 when the Nexus7 itself is selling at $199?
At least give it to them for being straight forward and honest. Yes, they screwed up, but so have a lot of other companies that in my opinion hold much much more sensitive data about me.
Not saying it's right for them to not take security as serious as they should have, but unlike a lot of other companies, they disclosed it immediately, came up with a game plan, apologized multiple times and are refunding users and offering others free stuff.
I've changed my password on the other envato services I use as a just in case and I still plan on using them in the future. They've always put together great and in-depth tutorials and are a great resource for beginners, hackers and experts.

I think your logic here is very flawed.
I can name a ton of people who've owned only 1 or 2 iPhones since they've released. However that isn't even what I'm arguing about.
Apple makes (in my opinion) a very smart decision to limit some features to only newer phones. Think about when iOS4 came out, it was only fully supported for the iPhone 4 and 3GS. Backgrounding on the 3G was a nightmare to memory and performance... so they cut it. You're saying they automatically lump in apps that make the device seem slow? I think they do the exact opposite. They make smart decisions to keep even 2 year old devices running like their brand new.
Of course they want you to update to a new device every two years (every single manufacturer does, don't just blame Apple here) but they are the only company I've seen that doesn't hold a gun to your head to upgrade just to get a new OS.
One thing I can always depend on with my iPhone, I'll likely see at least 3 major OS upgrades during my ownership. My Android phone (I own both) has only seen 1 major OS upgrade and very very very few incremental upgrades as well. The only reason why I have ICS on it is because of CyanogenMod.

If you consider making $1 a success, that is amazing odds. Try releasing a software product for any other OS and I'm sure that climbs to around 90% if not more.

At least it is accurate and being built in a day, it's more than sufficient. There is really no honest truth as to how well Google's device even works.
That being said, this is a perfect example of how Google entirely screwed up with this. This would have been the ultimate keynote release to Google IO. Not saying that it won't still be, but now other competitors have a great idea to build off of. Google should have just been quiet until this product was at least to a manufacturing stage.
I have to agree with this. I'd consider myself to be in the same boat. I was poor in school because I was bored. However I invested hours upon hours learning to code in a bunch of different languages, was making html / javascript websites in notepad in 4th grade ('95) and by my senior year I had an expert level knowledge of Photoshop. My school never taught me any of this. My parents gave me our old family computer and we had an internet connection.

I understand the thyroid issues for some people, but most would rather take the easy "magic pill" way out. You gain nothing from weight loss plans like that. Losing weight and keeping it off is a lifestyle change. Most people aren't willing to commit to it.
Honestly, all of the "non-profit" organizations out there who provide "funding" to AIDS research need to blow the bank and get behind something like this.

They are really getting old now. There is a proper way to handle protesting SOPA and it was done already. News outlets covered it and a lot of new people were informed about it. Have another blackout day if you want, but be respectful of those who may not totally agree with you.
Tactics like this get no one on your side. You're disrupting people's lives in a negative way by doing something like this.
You could add a nag screen to your app that would show if you have a heartbeat API call that returns that the user is using an outdated version.

Looks like Android users are going to start losing one of their "talking points" if this is going to become a trend in the Google Marketplace.
Instead of making the choice to crack down on sexual content I wish they would instead focus on getting ICS onto more handsets, cracking down on carriers / manufactures modifying device OS, and bouncing malware apps.
Cheaper than WWDC and it's likely you'll get a bunch of free hardware.
