Hope this is an "in progress" article.

Not a single resource or pointer mentioning "ethics"?

Three reference textbooks are available openly:

* Introduction to Information Retrieval, http://informationretrieval.org/

* Information Retrieval in Practice, http://www.search-engines-book.com/

* Entity-Oriented Search, https://eos-book.org/

Modern Information Retrieval is also a classic reference. Not openly available but some contents are (were?) available online. Their site seems to be down but the Internet Archive has a copy.

Additional resources here:

* https://nlp.stanford.edu/IR-book/information-retrieval.html http://web.archive.org/web/20220708135205/http://grupoweb.up...

Very interesting post.

Where can we find posts like these — e.g. architectural and technological analysis and decisions in real word contexts?

Still having error trying to fetch email from one Gmail account to another via POP3. Seem different from the error described in the post link.

"When iPhone users with iOS 14, the latest iPhone software, type a query into the search window, Apple now shows its own search results instead of Google’s. It also displays auto-complete style suggestions, highlighting how it is learning from users most common search queries. However, few are likely to have noticed the change."

I don't understand Hacker News. Tim Bray's post on Break Up Google was buried and not visible on HN's front page. The next day this on Visa-MasterCard post shows up on the top with a "forget Google" comment. Why?

Is this a result from the community or the algorithm?

HN seems to have changed a lot in the last few years.

GitHub Sponsors 7 years ago

Contributing to open source software has never been about money. I would be very interested in reading the economical analysis of the impact of this move by GitHub.

How will the money incentive align with the existing incentives.

Prices are marketed at <<$10 prices for first year registration. Renewals are then much expensive. The price that I am going to pay each year is really unpredictable and subject to business / commercial interests.

Where? Usually prices are marketed at <<$10 for first year registrations, in the following years they go up in an unpredictable way.

Do you know any registrar that guarantees a final price of $10/year on registration and renovations?

It is common for registrars to offer large discounts on first registrations. But then the prices can go up (a lot) in the following years.

The idea here would be to have a price that is fixed, i.e. it would not change depending on business or commercial decisions.

Web Fundamentals 10 years ago

Missing: "managing web projects".

Anybody has a good reference on this? Including managing teams from different backgrounds and details on documentation and artifacts that support web projects?
