I did my BS at CMU as well, though it's been around 3 years since I graduated. The Indian food options were not great in Pittsburgh; I remember one restaurant that got shut down by the Allegheny County Health Department. A service like this would have been perfect for me, easy to prepare in crowded shared kitchens or even in my dorm room.
The other options all have their downsides. The imported pre-packaged stuff has a lot of oil (and has an overwhelming amount of garlic) and honestly smells rancid. Frozen options like Amy's are alright, but quite bland. And restaurant delivery, even if available near you, is not very healthy.
It looks like this won't have any of those drawbacks. Excited to try it out.

I'd agree the North Korea thing is weird, but maybe she was just making conversation and dug herself into a hole. Plenty of Uber drivers have also told me vague stories about times they visited Country X long ago (many of which I thought didn't check out, but smiled and nodded anyway) just to keep the conversation going.
Certainly it is a possibility that the Uber gig could be some sort of cover, but I think it's unlikely.

There are very few tourists in the vast majority of the Richmond and Sunset, except near the water and Golden Gate Park (around the museums). Also, there are very few tourists south of Bernal Heights Park.
At CMU you took no courses in operating systems? Algorithms? Computer hardware or logic? Compilers? Graphics? Databases? Web programming? Distributed systems? Networks? Parallel/HPC? Language theory? Security/crypto?
The core that's required in both programs (15-122, 15-128, 15-150, 15-210, 15-213, and 15-251) is very broad and touches pretty much all of those areas. To be clear, hardware design isn't covered there, but the (x86-64) programmer's side of memory management and the CPU is covered well.
Other than algorithms, dedicated courses in all of those areas are offered as electives and you pick some of them. I recall taking OS, security, digital design / RTL (which was actually in the ECE department), web, and logic - but I could have subbed OS with Parallel/HPC, for example. The BS in CS curriculum[1] requires enough free and area electives that students gain depth in several of those areas.
Because these students will take none of these courses, they will differ significantly from those with a BS in CS.
The BS in AI curriculum[2] only requires two CS-wide electives, so students in that program will indeed have depth in fewer of the areas. This is why these students will receive BS in AI degrees, to differentiate them from those who receive BS in CS degrees. I think you're in agreement with CMU's decision here?
That said, with the broad base of the core classes like 15-213 and the second half of 15-210, plus implementation details covered in the AI/ML courses, I'm sure no graduate of that program would struggle with HPC, networking, or DB/sysadmin in the workplace, or in a graduate program in AI.
Ultimately, there's only so much you can fit into four years, but I'd bet it would be easier for someone from this new program to deepen their skills in those areas, than it would be for most BS in CS graduates to add ML skills.

As an SF resident, I love these things and regularly use them instead of calling an Uber. Requiring helmets (as the draft regulation does) is a bad idea; it would drastically reduce usage and push people back into cars.
One problem that some of these scooters have is that they seem to be easy to sabotage. I’ve seen vandals pulling on the brake cables near the front wheel, which would probably weaken the brakes or make them not function.

A fairly busy airport already exists in every case, so all they have to do is provide a revenue guarantee for one daily nonstop flight to Seattle. This is very common in the industry to entice airlines to open new routes.

It also doesn't make sense domestically within the US. A 5-hour flight from coast to coast is not a particularly efficient use of the A380. The only US domestic route that may be a fit is Honolulu to somewhere in the middle of the mainland (Denver, Dallas, or someplace like that).

Newer twin-engine planes (B737-MAX, A320neo, A330neo, A350, B787, the upcoming 777-X) have improvements in engine efficiency that have not been ported over to the A380. Airlines operate on wafer-thin margins, so even a percentage point increase in engine efficiency is huge.
Granted, the engines themselves are not made by Airbus, but there are integration costs involved.
There are other economic issues: (1) It's just hard to fill an A380 year-round. Not an issue on trunk routes like SFO-LHR, but there are only so many of those. (2) If slots at airports were auctioned out, you'd arguably see more demand for larger planes - maybe not the A380, but 777 or 787 sized.
This is a philosophical difference, in a way - running an asset-light business vs an asset-heavy business. Hotels have mostly moved towards not owning their properties, for example.
Increasingly, many new orders of aircraft are leases. However, they are not usually leased directly from the manufacturer. The airplane is usually owned by a holding company ("trust"), and tranches of the trust are sold to investors - somewhat similar to a mortgage bond.
The benefits of this is that investors from all over the world can invest directly into the airplane, then lease it to the airline. The plane itself is the collateral, and international treaties make it easy for investors to retrieve the plane if the airline isn't making its lease payments. They could then choose to lease the plane to someone else, sell it to someone else, or to scrap it for parts and materials.
What are the benefits for airlines? Typically, if things go south, they don't owe anything beyond giving the aircraft back. Also, given that many US airlines have gone through Chapter 11 recently, I'd assume they wouldn't get great interest rates if they actually want to buy the plane - it's likely cheaper for them to lease through an EETC. For example, American Airlines issued a bunch of EETC's the past few years.

This would make your wallet a single point of vulnerability. If someone gains access to your wallet, they would know your passwords and your 2FA tokens.

As for the benefits, while it is true that most companies don't offer all of those benefits, it's offset by the fact that the larger companies do. Most large companies have shuttles now, for instance. So, the % of engineers who have these benefits is higher now than it was in, say, 2009 :)
I think that benefits that are actually used are more valuable than they appear to be because they are untaxed. But of course, depending on what your indifference curve looks like, you might well prefer post-tax cash to pre-tax benefits.

(a) You're missing my point. The study cites hourly wage data for years 2009 through 2014. How large, or even how common, were sign-on bonuses (not perf bonuses) in 2009, and what are they at now? Sign-on bonuses are trivial to value. Any fair study would make an attempt to include that data - this one doesn't.
(b) How common were were shuttles, day care, onsite yoga/fitness lessons, gender reassignment surgery, egg freezing, and whatever else in 2009? These things do have some value - to me at least, it's the amount of post-tax money I would have spent for these amenities elsewhere. People are unlikely to use all of the benefits of course, but the basket has grown.
Health insurance as a benefit can't be considered to be a "basic requirement" and ignored, since plans vary a lot in coverage.
(c) While the stock of "most companies" might be worth nothing, those companies tend to be small and short-lived. Regardless, the majority of engineers work at larger established companies, and most of those working at a startup that might fail in a month are doing it out of choice.
TL;DR I am making an argument against the merits of the study. Rise in total compensation, and not rise in wages, is what matters.
