The woman teaching Ghana’s kids to code

That's a really tired joke. Do you know why you hear it so much? Have you ever considered how inundated the world is with carnist culture? Everyday vegans come across media, friends and assumptions about the normalization of eating animals. How do you know that someone is a carnist? They'll tell that dumb "how do you know someone is a vegan" joke.

The desire for insects and spiders deserve to die is very far from any reasonable viewpoint with contrasting counter points. Unless you're saying that OP is a "reddit kid" I don't see the problem with an irrational idea like this getting downvoted

My wife homeschool's our daughter (which I add to the context for that it shows she wouldn't have already been exposed to Comic Sans from public school) and one day my wife decided to switch some of the worksheets she created for our daughter to use Comic Sans. Our daughter was really excited about the change and said that now they're "more fun and easier to read, it seems more like a kid made this".

It's a cool effort but I guess it's not for me — I much prefer <= over ≤ and >= over ≥ and !== over ≠ etc. because I find it more explicit and readable than a condensed form.

My wife spent months in the hospital due to Hyperemesis Gravidarum (a disorder during pregnancy that causes continual vomiting and nausea. My wife vomited up to 40 times a day, eventually vomiting blood and breaking vessels in her eyes. She survived on a banana bag and lost 20% of her pre-pregnancy body weight. She said HG feels like being on an unending roller coaster while you're hung over and have the worst flu of your life). We lost the first baby. The second pregnancy was only survivable due to cannabis. It was risk we knew but 7 years later our child shows no signs of developmental disorders. I know, N=1, but still worth sharing.

Ah you're right, I forgot that the keyboard I use isn't common/standard. Backtick is right above Q for me.

Tmux Tutorial 7 years ago

One of the biggest improvements in my tmux productivity came when I changed my prefix (default Ctrl + b) to backtick (i.e. to `) I am a heavy user of tmux and spend a lot of time switching panes, switching windows, entering visual mode, detatching etc. so this really feels faster.

    # change prefix to backtick
    unbind-key C-b
    set-option -g prefix `
    bind-key ` send-prefix

Eating eggs in a restaurant is not a belief.

That's a very shallow interpretation of what I said. You say that you avoid eating eggs at home, which must originate from a belief. And yet you eat them at a restaurant, so why is there the contradiction?

you're trying to bait me into a corner

You've done that to yourself; or, I am pointing out where you're not being consistent.

because you seem to be using this thread as a soapbox to push an agenda unrelated to the discussion.

It reads more like you continuing to find excuses to not be accountable. Is the Dalia Lama some ethical authority to hold up as a standard for others? He's just a religious figure important to a specific group of Buddhists.

Any level of mindful eating is admirable, even if someone changes their constant diet of meat to one of having 1 day a week meat-free for the sake of animals and the environment is worth applauding.

These kind of baby steps never lead anywhere fruitful. The end goal must be worked towards. Applauding any and every tiny effort just makes people complacent and we never make any real progress. E.g. most vegetarians have no plans to transition to veganism, despite knowing about the cruelties of the egg and dairy industries (which are the same as the poultry and beef industries, just a different point in the pipeline).
