They want my college transcript? From the early 00's? I would like to think I've grown a bit professionally since then.

In the Desktop app, click New task and choose New remote task; choosing New local task instead creates a local Desktop scheduled task, which runs on your machine and is not a routine.

Oh uh... ok then.

Crypto and the Metaverse were solutions in search of a problem. LLMs kind of felt like that until tooling arrived that enabled doing a lot more than copying + pasting chat conversations.

Sure, maybe crypto changed some lives, but an entire industry? I think ALL of software dev is going under a transformation and I think we're past the point of "wait it out" IMO.

Or I'm wrong, but right I'm being paid to develop a new skill professionally. Maybe the skill ends up not being useful - ok, back to writing code the old way then.

This is definitely a "known problem". At my company we call it "promotion-driven development". The promotion guidelines call out that knowing when _not_ to build something is important, but how do you put that in a body of work? "Decided not to build A". Nobody cares.

I've been trying out vibe coding with my 4 year-old, but they quickly lose interest once we start getting into the "weeds" of implementation. Hey kiddo, which CSS library should we use for your web game?

Yeah, turns out I should have read TFA:

The short summary of the Sudoku + Poetry post is that unlike Rust or JavaScript, a single Python project cannot use more than one version of a specific Python package.

One of my favorite games of all time. Like others have said, the quotes/videos/etc presented during secret projects or research breakthroughs left quite a mark on my young mind.

That and the X-COM: UFO Defense opening cinematic lol

I mean in the blog post the author literally open sourced and then self-published his book after being dropped by multiple publishers for taking too long.

Plenty of documentation can be found about the JVM, but BEAM has always seemed like a bit of a mystery to me. This is great!

I worked at a competitor (Cerner) as my first job out of college and no-one has good things to say about them either, so maybe EMR is hard.

We recently had someone at our house to repair our dishwasher, because we suddenly started hearing a horrible grinding sound when closing the door.

Apparently we had bent one of the hinges! How? By overloading the bottom rack too many times. His advice was to load it ~50% LESS than we were. And don't pull the bottom rack out all the way when it's fully-loaded.

I can't tell if this is like general dishwasher advice, or our GE is a POS.
