Me and 18k people were let go in 2018. I was contract, so I knew what was going to happen.

I was hired by a different company who was confident in their ability to not fire contractors during recessions. Before 2020 they let go of the contractors.

I wasn't concerned because I had a ton of money + skills. But I'm pretty sure op is going to be dealing with a similar situation to me.

What's the android security flaw? As far as I've read pegasus has 0 click exploits on iOS that has successfully infiltrated hundreds of people. I couldn't find documented android examples.

I've read android has some malware that you need to click "allow from web" and manually install.

I see this most with new grads. The company knows their enthusiasm and ignorance to red tape and how disposable they are. They use these new grads on the worst jobs, long hours, terrible work experience, or thankless. The new grads do a decent job, but become disenchanted because their hard work wasn't rewarded either professionally with a promotion, or never made an impact on the company.

I believe that happened to Auto in the 60s and 70s, about 20-30 years after the boom.

If we (irresponsibly) use that timeline, we should expect dark days for the next 20 years. Most innovation will be outside the US. Then comes the 1990s where tech companies will sober up, cut the free food, and become competitive again. By 2010s they will be innovating again.... 40 years from now.

Yes duh? They are called reputation management companies, and they are contracted for plausible deniability.

I've seen it play out like this- a few well placed top level comments that defend a companies actions. Those are upvoted, anything contrary are downvoted.

You can see this when a thread is massively upvoted to a front page, that's something that a company can't really control. They don't have enough voting power. However inside the thread, people won't spend as much time upvoting and downvoting comments. This is where voting rings make the difference, controlling the narrative in the comments.

The companies with rabid fanbases are those that benefit most. If they can control the narrative, the fans will take the bait and run with it.

People might get bored of it too. I know those ultra addictive clicking games were part of my childhood. As an adult I have no interest.

This is because you are upper middle class. Among the working class and teenage population, it is a status symbol.

We have our own in the upper middle class and we are similarly exploited. Luxury cars + a honorable cause is one that comes to mind.

Marketing can target insecurities but it doesn't need to be insecurity based. I just find that most egregious. Advertising "new, better, faster,tech" seems like the opposite end of this.

Maybe I'm young and didn't experience it, but in the 90s you would plan a trip to Vegas and lose a few hundred dollars.

Today I see people doing this from their phone on every random sports game. Further there are constant ads on TV, the Internet, and on billboards.

I'm fortunate for a teacher who says "gambling is a tax on people who can't do math". And having tried gambling, it was a labor intensive way to lose money.

In my 20s I'd agree with the premise.

Now that I've seen high performers deviate from their job and make mistakes in the core role, I understand that even good workers benefit from managers.

I can even say the same thing about program management.

Physicians have a monopoly on treatment and restrict supply through the ACGME.

Hospitals and physicians have spent 1Billion on lobbying.

I could go on, I want a science based healthcare as an alternative to our authority based system.

It would be one thing if our system healed everyone, but the number of mistakes is enough to make me lose faith completely.

Really all of web impressed me over the desktop/app counterparts. I wrote and read to/from a php database with less than 2 hours of time. Laravel has me doing user authentication + useful coding in less than 40 hours after the tutorial.
