I am surprised that a community like HN where a large percentage consists of developers is so positive about a nuclear power plant.
One bug could lead to severe damage to everything and everyone around a nuclear power plant. We see those kind of bugs on the front page daily.
In my opinion it is absolutely irresponsible to start them up in the first. I have seen too much to actually trust in people always getting their shit right.

That makes me wonder: why do you spend so many hours badmouthing PHP in multiple threads on here? Why isn't that time spent on something else?
That was bad but I thought the worst part (icing) was "our package manager will be open source too so obviously we would welcome any contribution from you". Wow!
I remember when GitHub used to have private messaging. I liked that feature. It was an easy and unified way to get in touch with other coders on there and felt less intrusive than sending them e-mails out of the blue (or opening issues for the sake of communication, as some do).

So are your IntelliSense extension and the PHP Intelephense extension competing solutions? Why? Isn't there a way to join forces?
And I have to say that I've had better experiences with the latter. Also "last commit: 14.11.2018" on IntelliSense doesn't sound that great.
Last time I tried the 'Getter & Setter' extension, it was quite a pain compared to PHPStorm. I had to click on each of my variables to generate a getter and setter. Wish it was just let me choose which variables I want to generate getters and setters (issers and hassers) for.
I really like to work in VS Code when I am on my home laptop (as in: not at work) but things like these more or less force me to keep a PHPStorm trial version open in the background.
How is this fun?
Thanks for changing the title, whoever did it. This definitely sounded like PHP as a whole is dead. There's more than enough FUD surrounding PHP out there really.

Steve Jobs is turning in his grave. All of these look so random and interchangeable to me that it could probably even have effects on the common 'iOS first' mentality. What was so special about the iPhone again?
Seriously, HN? Downvoting a post by the guy behind the actual project so much that it (currently) ends up at the bottom of the discussion? Wow!
(That said, I don't agree with the author's opinion but it just seemed so disrespectful. Obviously quite some work went into this already and visually, it shows.)

I doubt that 'you can easily find good programmers' for other languages than PHP, depending on the location and the language and your definition of 'good'. PHP is widespread, making it easy to find developers while a lot of the more 'sophisticated' languages are not and I seriously doubt that all developers coming to Ruby or Python are immediately 'good' at it. (There are enough companies which are sticking to PHP because it just works and they can't find good developers for other languages in their region.)
Besides that, it's just really tiresome to see PHP bashing on HN again and again. Don't even get me started on the actual article.

Not too interested in those stats actually, but being a huge hip hop fan I think Rap Genius is a great site and if they can stand that kind of mass-crawling, even better for them!
Sure we can. And Node.js definitely shows off some functionality that PHP should be jealous of (referring to that 'PHP is meant to die' article). I am probably going to experience it myself soon when tapping into Node.js territoriers. But it's not a proper comparison if you put plain old basic PHP up against an ExpressJS project instead of using a current PHP framework such as Laravel 4.
I am far from an elitist (mainly coding PHP for a living prevents that anyway) but I never thought I'd see posts like this on HN with a decent amount of upvotes. It seems that anything involving PHP bashing gets upvoted instantly lately.

I just wanted to point out that it unfortunately doesn't work on Windows. And thanks for the suggestions, I am regularly setting up and using VMs already.

Graphics could be nicer I guess but all the talk about 'skeumorphism' and accuracy (although this is helpful feedback and if I'd code something like this, I'd also want to strive for accuracy) kind of weirds me out, once more. Can't you just enjoy it for a minute there?
Also, always a pleasure to hear fragments of 'The Edge' by David McCallum (also used in one of my favorite 'true school' hip hop tracks, 'No Regrets' by Masta Ace).

Minor bug report: when I open the 'What da copy?!' dropdown at the top and don't select anything but hover on a color, then hover on the second or third item in the dropdown again (coming from below the dropdown), there's no highlighting of the dropdown items and clicking selects the 'peter river' color. Something to do with z-index maybe? I am using the latest Chrome beta.
Also: hovering on any of the colors in the bottom row brings up the vertical scrollbar.
What's with all the negativity on HN lately? Not getting the hate really. The site looks good and the UI makes it feel like a game - fun to use and there's not really a lot to 'figure out', come on. Useful or not and (design) educational values aside, the creator enjoyed making it.
True, that's another good point. Talking of plugins for other music formats, the Oldsk00l MOD Player Plugin for Winamp provides much more accurate playback of Amiga MOD files than the built-in Winamp MOD player. Absolutely recommended and essential if you like Amiga (crack intro) chiptunes. Hasn't been updated in ages but still works fine for me.
