The article talks about how confusing Markdown can get. I understand, but HTML is *much* more confusing when it comes to creating technical articles. These days we are going to see more and more markdown with the advent of AI. Markdown works really we with AI because it reduces the number of tokens required for the same amount of information vs HTML.

It also makes running Docker a whole lot easier. I know there is Docker for Windows, but it feels like a red headed step child compared to Docker on Linux.

It seems like no one is hold Boeing accountable for completing the project with the given budget. And to add insult to injury, Boeing is being improperly awarded tens of millions of dollars for performance fees the company has not earned [1]. If a project is failing, just cut your loses and scrap it. This political pork spending doesn't help anyone excited about space exploration.

It seems like Russia has found that unconventional forms of warfare like cyberwarfare, political espionage, and active measures are much more cost effective than pure might. Its really concerning especially because Democratic nations seem to be especially susceptible. Europe and the United States should be condemning these attacks.

I've been impressed by the ease of use for VSTS. We've adopted it for our team, and it has really reduced the friction in our CI/CD pipeline. We've been able to automate the entire process. It seemed to be easy to setup because there is a Task for just about anything you want to do. Shout out to the Azure DevOps (VSTS/TFS) team. Keep it up, nice work!

Users or former users I spoke with described lost jobs, lost marriages, lost houses, lost money, lost time. Foreclosures and divorces. Weight gain and mental-health problems. And one other thing: the problem of convincing other people that what they were experiencing was real. A few mentioned jokes about Doritos, and comments implying that the real issue was that they were lazy stoners.

With users themselves describing problems that result from smoking marijuana like impaired concentration, short-term memory, motivation, and neglecting responsibilities. These are serious pit falls of failing to moderate. But I also feel that legalizing marijuana is a better alternative than putting users in jail. Incarceration seems like it would cause a lot of the problems described by marijuana users (lost jobs, lost marriages, lost houses, lost money, lost time).

Sure, 70% of the earths surface is water. 97.5% being salt water and 2.5% being fresh water. You can't use sea water to irrigate agriculture. You can't drink sea water from the faucet. Additional money/ cost and work would be need to make the water drinkable. Please consider that many states like California, Nevada, Arizona, Texas, water is a valuable resource. And yes, we are running out of cheap drinkable water. That's why most of the west coast gets most of their water all the way from Colorado.

Analytics plays an important role in decision making and understanding. And in fact the cumulative effects of analyzing data has lead to greater efficiency in countless areas of manufacturing[1], better healthcare/patient outcomes[2], and evidence based policy making[3]. Higher levels of technologies, productivity and organization don't just happen by reaching and thinking really hard. Smart people are looking at the data and doing analytics to see how they can improve their processes. Analytics are corner stone to better technology, productivity, and systems.

And sure, you can make the argument that charts and graphs themselves will not end poverty. But your missing the point. You should be asking what arguments you can make with those charts. They are often made to help you make a decision. Like everything, finding small improvements will help us understand what is working and what isn't. And with that information we can build better systems with the goal of reducing poverty.

I feel this is anecdotal, with the truth being that there are now more and more alternatives to the JVM for enterprise systems. Which could be one reason why the JVM has been loosing market share over the past few years. Not to say that Java, Scala or Clojure are not great languages. But I think its going to be trend that continues.

EDIT: It seems like some companies actually incentivize employees to give to certain campaigns, by providing perks to those who give. It sounds more like coercion than an independent choice. It would appear to put employees in a difficult situation to say no to your employer don't you think?

Money is a pretty good predictor of who will win elections. The idea is that Congress is constantly seeking re-election. And because campaigning is so expensive (TV ads, signage, events, staff etc...). You gain influence by either changing the laws, or changing the congressional representative. You do this by donating to those candidates that will favor the ISP providers cause. And because money has such a large impact on who wins elections, by donating more to ISP sympathizers, you gain influence.

Its not that the congress members are looking at who specifically donated. Rather its the other way around. ISP companies pick a pony and bet on their horse.

We should be continuing to encourage higher education in addition to trade schools. Bachelor Degree holders, on average, earn a million dollars more during their life time than those who only have a high school diploma. Even if you are accounting for lost earning potential, cost of tuition, supplies etc... your still talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars more earned than if you were to not achieve a degree.

I agree. Why is it that banks are able to charge 6.8% interest for student loans, but the government will provide banks with that same student loan money for 0.03% interest. The middle man adds no value.

If the choice is between not going to college vs. earning a degree, statistically you earn more simply by having a college degree, regardless of the major. If you are talking in relation to going to university for a STEM degree vs. going to school for art history, you could certainly argue that STEM will will always make more. But I would still recommend young people go to school over not. Even if it is something 'useless'. Either way you slice it, the data indicates that encouraging youth to go to college is still worth it. Even with how expensive college is.

Can you provide any specific details on how the new suggested tax plan will raise the bar? It seems as though we should be encouraging Graduate and PhD students. It seems as though it would force additional students into taking out loans if their tuition is not waived?

I too would like to know! I have yet to find a way display flex rows that are different heights and that align left to right. It seems the only options are to align by column, or use Masonry.js which seems like overkill. Even Bootstrap 4 only supports column layout.

Anyone been able to accomplish this with CSS-Grid or Flexbox?

.NET Core feels very much simplified and has a lot of really wonderful Front End templates, specifically JavaScriptServices for their React + Redux, Vue, and Angular starter projects. They feel very much like a Node and React + Redux project but with a C# backend and TypeScript. I've found it to be really enjoyable having a type checker, server side rendering, webpack, and a great deployment story. All out of the box.

A majority of voters did not actually vote for Trump. And a majority of voters laughed off his promises because nobody thought he would be elected.

The foundation of "checks and balances" in the United States was that we have representatives that would speak for the people. Those congressional representatives would move the ball forward. The president was never supposed to have the power to create unilateral policy. In a sense, the people need protection from someone they never wanted in the first place. The majority of Trumps views are held only by the minority. This is what people need protection from.
