I tinkered with Hermes yesterday but it still seems like a solution to a problem I don't have as a programmer.

I'm using Heztzner Webhosting (https://www.hetzner.com/webhosting/) for some decades, $2/month.

I am happily using Vienna (https://www.vienna-rss.com/) for about a decade, but it is Mac only.

Meteor is fullstack, so you can reuse code on the front- and backend, which is nice for validation and business logic.

In the last ten years I worked for more than a dozen startups that based their business successfully on Meteor. Some of them got big and none has regretted it.

I have worked with Nuxt.js, Sapper (now Sveltekit), Play Framework an many more; all great, but for many projects I would still consider Meteor the strongest contender.

I'm European but live in Paraguay, my wife is from here. I always work remotely, that is, when I find a job. I would like to life in northern Brasil and my wife wants to live in the US. But we very likely stay where we are as it is much more important with whom you stay than where, and we both would miss my wife's family a lot.

Definitely, for most projects. Also the combination of Meteor and MongoDB allows for great development speed.

My wife and I make some money with a couple of cheap renting units. To make the administration work easier I started to write an application last year (https://adpro.sun.com.py/en). At first it was very Paraguay-specific so currently I'm working on the last part of internationalization which is the contract and invoice editor. From the start I integrated the ability to also administer renting units for others.

It is very useful to us but I'm not sure about product/market fit. I'm eager to learn from others who rent out what they use for administration and such a system makes sense to them. If I really go after the idea I'll also need a co-founder, please contact me if you are interested.

I used it for a few small apps and enjoyed. I also build/rebuild a few static sites with Svelte and it is my default tool for static sites now.

I am very happy with a Dell Precision 5510. I bought it as replacement for my MacBook Pro, maxed out late 2016, (MB) when it needs butterfly keyboard service (twice so far). It came with a Xeon processor and 32 GB RAM. for under 1000 USD. I run it with Ubuntu and compile software all day. My MB fans were blowing a lot and once even the battery swelled (service). My replacement Precision beats the MB in any aspect.

As a programmer I have coded a lot together with Physicists who changed careers. My wife is a Physicists and she, as all of her friends from study times, work as teachers. One fried of mine after working a few years at SLAC went beyond and studied theology, he is now a bible teacher.

Interesting, I had almost the opposite experience after having grown up in a fundamentalistic atheist environment. When I read the bible with an attitude like "God, if you really exist I will listen", it seemed somehow I understood what I read for the first time. It was the strongest experience I had in my life. This is over 30 years ago, I'm a senior developer now) and I still read almost daily in the bible. No other book has really changed the way I think about the world to any close extend.

I have been around for a while (C++, Smalltalk, Java, Scala) but my recent experiences are in the Node.js and Meteor world (frontend + backend). Until last week I was backend developer and CTO of an education startup, but we were not profitable and shut down. We are a startup in the education space working from Barcelona and about 8 other locations and need an administrator/DevOps (with strong Ops) that helps us to scale.

We are currently working with MongoDB, Redis, Nginx, LINUX, Amazon AWS, Git, IBM Watson and a few dozen of APIs. Our developers use CoffeeScript for Meteor, Swift for iOS, Java and C++ for Android.

You should help us to plan and maintain a scalable hosting architecture, to standardize and manage environments for development, stage and production, help with performance optimizations, monitoring, load and content distribution, test automation, failover, backup and security.

We would like to start with a two month contract and continue if all goes well. Our founders have worked on successful startups in the past.

Knowing Meteor and it's special treatment of the Oplog would be a plus.

A little older but not dated is https://github.com/softwarerero/meteor-accounts-t9n that started as a translation of the meteor basic packages and it is easy to add translations for an application. Currently it comes with 24 translations of standard meteor packages. We have not implemente international date and calendar support so it is not a real i18n solution, just translation. But it works in many production projects, which answers the original question indirectly.

I moved from Germany to Paraguay. When I work from Paraguay I have to pay 10% income taxes (it does not matter if I do it as a person or a company) and if it is for a local client another 10% of VAT (IVA). When I travel and do onsite jobs in other countries the Paraguayan government does not demand any taxes.

To get permanent residence you need to visit Paraguay, proof that you have a fortune of at least 5K USD and run around a few days between different agencies. I helped a US citizen some month ago with his residency and we had everything together in 4 days, it would have been 3 if we not had forgotten one paper.

I moved to Asunción, Paraguay 6 years ago, after having been here twice for language-learning-vacations. It took about 3,5 month to feel fluent but I will learn more language and culture all my life. I came from central Europe and enjoy the warmer weather and the relaxed live style. I put all my stuff in a container and paid about 7.000 USD to including all the packing which I never could have done that well myself, I also could live back home normally until 2 days before I moved. One monitor crashed on the way but the insurance payed for it. I live in a nice apartment of about 2.000 square feet with 24 hours guards, janitor and gardener for 1.000 USD/month.

Good education is expensive here. I meet later today with some US embassy workers and will ask what they pay for their kids.

I want to stay here and planning a marriage, it is really difficult to get a Paraguayan girl to live far from family for a long time. People here are extremely family oriented.

I thought it would be easy to find a job here as a Java/Groovy/Smalltalk/C++ developer, but it was not. You can find work here if you are into M$ technologies or maybe PHP. You will work many hours on boring projects and get paid almost nothing. If you work with a cooler tech stack there is no market here. Since I am here I have learned Scala, object oriented databases, search engines like Lucene and Elasticsearch, node.js and Meteor. All of that is not in use in the country. Finding remote work has never worked for me and only once I found a project for two month in Berlin. A friend who a Java developer is still employed by a German company and moved to rural Paraguay, he is married here and plans to become old here.

Living costs easily doubled since I am here. The quality of life is higher in some areas and lower in others, it always comes down to the compromises one is willing to make.

Last week I helped a guy from Tennessee to get his residency. A friend met him on a flight from Miami to Sãu Paulo, he wanted to get a second passport as an insurance to the limitations on civil rights going on in the US. We ran around for 4 days to get all the papers and seals the government asks for and now he has to wait for 90 days to get his permanent residency. After that he still has to apply for an ID card which will probably take another month.

A platform for web shops build with Java and MongoDB. The frontend is Spanish but the backend is easily translatable (German already done) and multi-currency. I would sell the site or pair with somebody who knows how to market it.
