For now: Give Jujutsu (https://jj-vcs.github.io/jj/latest/) a try, it's good whilst maintaining a level of compatibility with git which is good for gradual adoption and uptake.

Based on the fact that your ideal is to have a similar experience to heroku than managing your own server setting up reverse proxies take a look at these options:

above is not what I do but would be the options I would pursue if I understand your preference and requirement correctly.

I am starting my kids off with Python personally.

I don't know if best, but I know it well and with the repl and existence of notebooks like Jupiter (https://realpython.com/jupyter-notebook-introduction/) it gives me the tools to get started and teach quickly.

Interested to see what resources others share as I not using any right now just my own knowledge of python. I did have kids learn scratch using a book as a prequel.

comparing it to my macbook (us layout), Ctrl is in the right place, it just that the function key that should be to its left is not there and is on the other side of the space bar which I prefer.

Fun fact: As well as caps lock, it has a function key lock without having to touch anything in macos preferences.

I have noticed more companies adopting Amazon Linux when a few years back they would have used CentOS. I wonder how much this affected the decision.

Haven't tried myself, but a friend of mine was talking up Amazon's offering. Apparently one of the big benefits is that they store your photos 100% raw as you took them so no reduction in quality to save space. Apparently with your prime membership you get unlimited storage of full resolution included ie free. Guess Caveat for this option is having a prime membership with Amazon.
