In general, AI is as impactful as any technology can be. However, for those of us who like to enjoy the process (the act of gathering the info, structuring them and editing them), whether it be writing code, or writing in general, there's a joy in the act of building - straight up finished pieces of work handed over to you, robs you of this space to think and formulate your own views.

I do agree on the "existential crisis" part of it. At work, every time I see someone sign-off of something AI generated without much edits, I feel this fear that we're on to slippery slope where there's no turning back.

Can you kindly elaborate on steps 4 and 5?

How do you do that post-mortem? I can agree, let's say if the problem is 'pick top k elements', and you already know what needs to be done, you can hone in on what went wrong. But in cases where you don't know how to come up with the steps, how do you go about that?

My opinion of Sapiens is the same as well - very broad strokes. I feel Sapiens is heavily promoted because of ease in which the content flows? - maybe that's the selling point of the book?

At a personal level, it seems to me that this phenomenon could be applied to e-books as well. I have hundreds of kindle books I bought from amazon which aren't read yet. This is how it happens. You see a book, and you want it in your library and you imagine one day you'll get the time to enjoy it, but that day never arrives.

The proliferation of book recommendation systems and the websites which create lists of "To read" books are to be blamed as well. Maybe not. One thing author talks about: preserving books for the next generation, that doesn't apply to e-books either in the physical.

One thing for sure, We aren't filling up earth's surface at that speed. I'm agnostic about the other issues surrounding population growth, but the authors would've made more impact if they used real ratios ( like land surface used per person, a certain natural resource consumed per person, etc.)
