I divide my days into coding and planting seeds+farming, and i like very much both tasks. My opinion is that there is a bandwidth for everything, but kids should follow their passions and do what they love best.

When i'll be a parent i'll teach them this because it's lovely, and that ! oh but this skill is amazing also ! There is bandwidth for most everything but above all your kids will copy you and see what you love and probably get inspired to follow their own path.

So teach them to do what they love and love what they do ! and teach them to feel happy above all. But teach them by being that example yourself !

I can't use Ubuntu, I've tried countless times, the experience sucks. I'm trying mint, and i can't even access latest libraries, everything is old, no partition resizing during installation, lack of distro tools and lack of polish; in mageia everything is fresh and if it not the free support quickly updates them.

Mandriva had rolling releases with cooker and mageia has also with cauldron. Sorry for looking like a troll but i never got the hype with this ubuntu distro, i wish HN supported mageia more since distrowatch even reports mageia as the number two more popular distro.

The creators of DF could partner with some game studio to create a nice GUI for playing, or create an API that could allow for beter interfaces to evolve, the tilesets are great, but custom tutorials would be awesome. I tried playing DF once but was overwhelmed with the information and didn't try again, and i used to play nethack and adom.

I also recommend ADOM for those who like nethack and redrogue that is a roguelike meets platformer, very nice !

What i mean is that democracy can be "hacked", e.g.:

1)First empoverish people, them give them presents (like a government job) and then just keep them at those (sheep) jobs voting for whatever your will, or else they lose their jobs. This is to what i see as the current trend.

Solutions: 1) 6 hours max work hours, instead of 8. More creativity, no unemployment and more happiness, health and society involment (e.g. making friends and "art").

2) Simple law, like the one i proposed before, and easy to learn. Test it with a 6 year old. When people start an ecosystem around crime it will only generate more crime, since the ecosystem wants to thrive.

3) a github like collaborative space for science, cities, etc. Goal, e.g. : to establish a moon colony, or to eliminate diseases or pain, or get to immortality. Btw dear rich people you will die someday and your statistical chances are to reincarnate in some baby in a poor country.

Better than democracy, where a majority can impose rules on a few, it would be better we had a strict laws that could be learned by 5 year old in under 5 minutes, like, "thou shall not impose your will or arm another".

And then have groups of people that just get together to grow and/or share on some ideals.
