Except that UPI is a payment standard, Google neither has monopoly over it nor the only one payment company who supports UPI in India, there are many others like Paytm, Phonepe, Mobikwik, etc.

Isn't one supposed to be responsible for their own passwords/security? Does Microsoft take responsibility if someone steals your windows password or hacks your computer? No, they will just say its you who didn't install the security updates. Why should a banking transaction be any different?

A google employee had also similarly pointed out evidence in an internal company memo few years ago. That employee was promptly fired and last I heard, he is struggling to make a living and ends meet in the US.
It deserves to be in trouble considering they blatantly tried to kill speech of Saragon of Akkad and a few others. Monopoly shouldn't be abused in this manner.
They are indirectly helping the community by prodding them to look for decentralized alternatives like peertube, lbry, etc. every now and then. They can't say it outright as they have to care about shareholder and corporate interests, etc. but even they know where the future lies internally!
Sun's main issue was that they failed to capitalize on all the wonderful tech they had including Java, VirtualBox and Openoffice/StarOffice. Even after open sourcing all of them, they could have kept the company running by marketing to enterprises and offering support.
If they had learned these skills from companies like RH/SUSE/IBM, then Java would have been in much better hands today.
That's true but on the other side, ideas are sold dime a dozen, only their successful implementation proves in hindsight that the idea was worth something. Stealing ideas doesn't mean much as they are available aplenty but a startup which successfully implemented that idea is worth something.
Why bother investing and prying when you can simply buy those companies off once they become large enough?
I've read in some article that insurance companies are actually encouraging the hackers by forcing their insured victims to pay the ransom instead of try to recover on their own or fight back the hackers in any way.
What I'm seeing besides xenophobia is the old protectionist argument (our country-men are being laid off by companies each day and you dare bring foreigners here!). Its a very old argument but still works for those willing to buy it.

From what I've heard, the Nordic countries like Netherlands, Norway, Finland, etc. and some Eastern European countries like Romania are people friendly (at least for now).
They do a whole lot more than just marketing gimmick, they just don't do it publicly due to risk of backlash involved in activism (and businesses hate risk!).
Now whether this "whole lot more" can be good, bad or ugly is an entirely different story!
This can be easily solved by presenting an option set like "slow/fast/HD" to the user, then stream accordingly. Open source has always been about lots of choices anyway!
Unfortunately, Amazon S3 and Akamai CDNs will come to their rescue in still making their pages load faster. As a plebeian, all my efforts at keeping my pages light will go in vain as I simply can't afford the CDN infrastructure of these tech giants.
Abysmall programming has been compensating for any Moore's Law benefits since a while now, but the present android/npm generation has surpassed so much in that ability that at times, it seems they have actually reversed the Moore's Law with their incompetence!
Most importantly, their interests directly align with users actually buying their products, not viewing ads on their products. Thus, they have a sort of vested interest in ensuring privacy (which is a product feature). The same cannot be said of Google's Android.
The author says that some firms indeed sell LibreOffice with support but then file the bugs upstream and expect them to be solved at zero cost.

Maybe I'm a bit uninformed but I feel that the whole certification system is quite convoluted and confusing. Couldn't there be a simpler solution of solving the simple trust problem that a user has over the authenticity of a website?
The caveman pleasures were limited to the culinary (having food) and the carnal (having sex). But today's human has surpassed any and every definition of greed for pleasure. Capitalists having billions in their banks and shareholding across companies still crave for more and more pleasure. I just don't understand what kind of pleasure people are after today.
We need the search engine to display some stats along with each search result link, for example:
# of bytes the page downloads.
# of scripts/stylesheets the page downloads.
# of ads the page downloads.
# of http requests the page does.
If that happens, the minimalists will typically choose the most efficient page because competition has already ensured that content quality will be top notch in almost all of them for most popular searches.
UPI is great and so is NEFT, many other Asian countries are in talks to replicate these successful models in their own countries.
Also, India came up with RUPAY which is a great answer to VISA/MasterCard monopoly. But somehow it didn't catch up in usage I think.
India also recently introduced RUPAY which is an alternative to VISA/MasterCard duopoly. Don't know about the success and usage of that though.
The article is half truth because Unilever has exited advertising from ALL social media platforms including Twitter, not just FB.
All those "dialects" including Microsoft's Edge and Apple's Safari use the same Chrome's rendering engine underneath called "Blink", so no.
Only Firefox has a different engine (Gecko), so it qualifies.
