The author starts with 8 paragraphs on gold, and the word gold is mentioned 33 times throughout the article, spread about evenly throughout. By no means did the author "move on" from talking about gold, let alone "quickly".
Really? HN has been a mini-Reddit for quite some time now. Frequently just a bunch of low quality, unfunny and recycled one-liners hoping to grab a few precious internet points.
But the author can't be serious about no one knowing who Prabhakar Raghavan is. He is, for instance, the co-author of the definitive text on randomized algorithms [Motwani and Raghavan]. He has also been a well-respected database researcher for many years.
Surely YOU can't be serious. The author was very clearly comparing this guy to much more famous and heavily derided figures like Musk, Zuckerberg, etc. I don't think co-authoring a text on randomized algorithms gets you the same notoriety as being the head of Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter...
Not sure that "being able to hit undo" and "no harm done!" is what makes blowing things up enjoyable, but to each his own.

It seems like your expectations must come from frontend development or something, where you can hot glue together a few packages to instantly get results. It is absolutely possible to do what you want, but it still would take a little knowledge / engineering to make it work.
This take just seems disconnected from reality. The advertisers know at some level what's going on there, but until the general public changes its view of what Twitch is, they can advertise there with zero consequences. If and when some scandal emerges about the sexualization of the content of Twitch, they can all publicly do their pearl clutching performance and pull their ads.
And the idea that "most female streamers seem to basically use their streams as inspiration to work out" is really cute.

This is my expectation for every single "expert" answer on Reddit. Confidence without substance.
You lead with saying you have no background in physics, proceed to give an incorrect explanation, and then asked if it was wrong. Someone simply told you it was in fact wrong -- which apparently didn't meet your expectations. If you wanted someone to explain it to you, why not ask for an explanation or for critique rather than to _expect_ a total stranger to correct all of your understanding out of the goodness of their heart?
Why not just come out and state "Someone please offer me their valuable time to explain physics exactly at my level and at my pace. Thanks!"
Rust did not invent immutable by default. This appears to be some kind of blog spam. More than 50% of the "article" is just trivial code examples backing up a non-existent point. Perhaps the author is looking to get a job in Rust and is padding out their blog with "Praise Rust!" evangelizing.
I don't understand what you're saying. Clearly both types of meetings (one-off vs recurring) would be helpful. The one-off may save you days/weeks of research, but it seems like you're not satisfied with that unless you can answer every single minor question you might have across the entire codebase.

We are nowhere NEAR saturating our landmass with people. There are more and less desirable places to live in the country, but there's no shortage of raw space.

You're right. And to continue with this kind of reasoning: there's definitely a non-zero chance that humanity is wiped out by a large asteroid collision, or a fast spreading lethal disease, or nuclear war. Therefore since there's a non-zero chance that everything in the future will be worth exactly zero, everyone should stop investing in the market immediately.

Society largely finds marijuana use acceptable, and yet it remains a federal crime. When someone cuts me in line at the store, I don't see that as ethical or acceptable, but we don't have laws against it. So your argument that unacceptable == illegal isn't set in stone.
We may have laws for things that we don't bother to enforce as a society. It's easy to see the possibility that society just views car theft as a normal occurrence ("insurance will cover it"), or perhaps too burdensome to enforce, and therefore society just accepts some amount of it without blinking an eye.
This isn't at all what they claim. Can you point out where they say that "if you just buy their thing you'll have a distraction free life in 14 days" ?
What it actually claims is to get you to "bearable levels of procrastination", which I find refreshing, since it seems like a very achievable and realistic goal for those of us that procrastinate. In fact, this claim is nearly the opposite of what you're railing against.
You also said you have personally started making a meaningful difference, but gave zero hint about what you have done, and what impact it has made. And you leave us with "maybe there's some advice buried in it". I'd like to say, no, there's none I can see, unless you'd like to offer something specific and helpful. I'm curious to see what you have done.
And someone in a "flow state", headed in the wrong direction, is even more wasted time than a meeting to coordinate efforts in the right direction.

This may surprise you, but some people are from regions of the world where only a subset of worldwide products are available to them. Those people will then only write about the things generally available in their country.
