working on v2.0!! realizing how it comes across now. Oculus link does not allow for recording & we have a shitty mp4 in a google drive of it working thru a phone camera. Left this out because there wasn't time to compile. Just pasted everything into the medium blog. Rather than re-write, since we all flew home & separated the parts, I'm working on a souped up version w/ friends. We're designing a new pcb in kicad & just want to get something cleaner out. Happy to email an actual video though if you care to see the blurry pov

Hi Gwern, I'm honestly not sure. I have some firefox extension that skips trackers and other redirects. I have like 100 firefox extensions, actually. I'm not sure how most of them work nor what they do exactly, I just trust that they make my browser more "secure" and I tend to download things at random -- especially if I see ads or want certain features in my client (i.e. a browser that auto-rejects cookies).

Happy to try and help you figure this out but when I revisit this specific hyperlink I'm still getting the gwern url & not arxiv

The time for cybernetic enhancements of human minds and bodies is, reasonably, a decade or two away from becoming mainstream. Leading up to that, I wonder if there will be enough effort put into consumer protections so that it doesn't turn into a knock-off cyberpunk novel.

I don't think we live in any dystopian future or Black Mirror episode yet, but I do think that if a character in one of those episodes had a flashback to pre-cyberpunk life, it'd look quite a bit like 2024.

Are consumer protections even the right way to navigate this? Could American government reasonably handle this? Supposedly, it'd be the NIH and its peer organizations doing this, and I trust them a reasonable amount.

If you don't mind, I'm trying to experiment w/ local models more. Just now getting into messing w/ these but I'm struggling to come up w/ good use cases.

Would you happen to know of any cool OSS model projects that might be good inspiration for a side project?

Wondering what most people use these local models for
