From a consumer perspective, what's wrong with c9.io being purchased by Amazon? Shouldn't that mean more stability and an acceptance by enterprise of cloud coding?

The title seems misleading. People with marijuana in their bloodstream != stoned drivers. Marijuana use is detectable for a long time past the point of impairment and the data only reflects that they HAVE used marijuana vs being stoned at the point of driving.

Maybe instead of breathalysers and drug detection kits we should have standardised attention/reaction tests to determine if someone is safe to drive (you could probably even run them on a tablet). This would also weed out (pun intended) tired drivers.

I think the main issue is that Sydney is so spread out and there is very little late night public transportation.

That means a night out for most people ends with a very expensive taxi bill (Uber has helped somewhat though).

If one can only go out drinking very occasionally, the tendency is to overdo it on those times you do.

I think they are banking on the fact that fewer people are inclined to return their phone and order a new one to save $50 than would claim a $50 refund outright.

I think that's the point of material design. It's the design equivalent of egoless programming. You should not be able to tell who wrote/designed something if it is done properly.

This looks like they expect HTML5 mobile games to become more popular in the future. This means browser games will be able to access the same features as native ones.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I have used it before and I like it.

I do wish someone would hurry up with a Ruby implementation through (ended up having to use Ruby Racer to decode it on the server).

I guess it comes down to economy of scale. Only a company at Google's scale can afford to budget AND monetize such a project which would make little sense at a smaller enterprise.

I would argue that crappy developers are more productive "initially" but in the longer term may end up with unmanageable code bases that will slow them down.

That being said, one can also spend so much time writing "perfect" code that it misses the shipping date entirely.

I guess in the end you need to balance these priorities and hope you will have time for a refactor after the product has shipped.

I don't necessarily think launching/announcing it in its beta state was the wrong thing to do (as opposed to launching a finished product like Apple does). Imagine if they spent all the resources to "finish" the product and then find out it was a failure?

They obviously learnt a lot from the initial public reactions and I am sure that a lot of Glass technology has made its way back to smart phones and smart watches (especially voice recognition).

IMHO if you have 5 years of professional experience, having a CS degree is merely an afterthought (unless you are going for a teaching or highly specialized occupation).

One can only really teach one's self to program.

List your work experience prominently and highlight your responsibilities and achievements.

I am a Ruby on Rails developer and I have been developing on my Chromebook (and any place with a browser) using Nitrous.io (https://www.nitrous.io/). There are also other comparable services as well. I mainly use it on days when I am working from home. It give me terminal access in the browser, (but not quite full sudo) as well as a decent IDE.

I have yet to use Crouton on my Chromebook because I have another laptop running Ubuntu and I just haven't found the need yet (though to be honest I haven't picked up my old laptop since I got the Chromebook).

Browserstack lets me check out what the web pages look like in other browsers.

If you do use Crouton, then you should basically have a Ubuntu box. Most Chromebooks have an SD Card slot and USB slots as well if you need extra storage.

I would imagine different wood types (walnut, mahogany, balsa) would require slightly different tooling and handling...
