This is a great concept for musicians, however I’m sure it took awhile to build up the user base. Cool to see more niche music communities floating around the web. I run a similar site www.synthshare.com except for producers to get feedback on their music.
This is very motivating. I am also running a site in the indie music industry as a one-man biz. (http://www.synthshare.com) It has been a challenge to build up the community, I'm sure leveraging Fandalism helped you kickstart your growth. Do you have any advice about user acquisition? Recently I've been getting feedback from music production communities which has all been positive and converted to users; however, it sometimes feels like the site isn't growing as fast as it should be considering all the positive feedback I've received.
Everyone wants to get feedback on their own music, but very few find the time to give others feedback.
Last month I launched SynthShare to help producers get constructive feedback on their tracks. The app is a 1 for 1 feedback exchange system. For every track you give feedback on, you will receive 1 feedback. The more feedback you give, the more you will receive. You can upload a mp3 file or stream directly from your Soundcloud page.
There are a few features to maintain quality feedback. First, users must provide at least 100 characters of feedback. Second, track creators can rate the quality of the feedback they receive which will affect karma scores. And third, I moderate all feedback.
Currently, you can obtain feedback from all experience levels. However, I am exploring ways to allow users to be matched to specific experience levels in the future.
I wouldn't be surprised if Apple follows the trend and introduces payments through imessage. They could make it pretty simple if they link it to Apple Pay/Touch ID.
It looks like they also wiped out their developer forum which was home to a wide range of questions and answers for specific API uses. It's too bad this is gone, it had some great content.
I logged in today to find 3 predictions that were double my actual salary. Maybe if you include an option to add your real salary, the salary predictor bar only allows guesses within a specific range outside of the real salary. It might keep the predictions more realistic.
Also, I received an email confirmation from SalaryFairy. What is the purpose of this if I already logged in with Linkedin? Wouldn't my account already be verified if I have a Linkedin account?
I like the concept. Interesting how it's a game and provides salary analytics at the same time. I just added my profile but I will check again after a few people have predicted my salary to see the results.
I was bouncing around a few ideas that involved using the Linkedin API a few months ago. I have a few questions about Salary Fairy that may help me with my research...
Does Salary Fairy download a user's profile to the database? If so, I thought Linkedin required the user to grant permission to store the data in addition to just obtaining access when logging in. Is this still the case?
Have you considered allowing campaign creators the ability to easily embed their T-shirt sales directly on their blogs, similarly to how shoplocket does it with purchases?
We are actually developing a marketplace to help with cell phone fraud. We currently allow users to accept payments via paypal, google checkout, or amazon payments and expect to introduce Stripe Connect payments in 2013. This is only a start to preventing fraud but we have more features still being tested including a feedback system that we hope will work better than eBay's does. This thread is very helpful in determining what people want in a peer to peer marketplace.
Our site is still very new but we are open to criticism. cellsolo dot com
