Except Carmack, as much as I hate to say it, was simply wrong. If you run the GPU at full throttle then you get the power draw that he reported. However, if you run the CPU AND the GPU at full throttle, then you can draw all the power that’s available.

In my tests of a Supermicro ARS-111GL-NHR with a Nvidia GH200 chipset, I found that my benchmarks performed far better with the RHEL 9 aarch64+64k kernel versus the standard aarch64 kernel. Particularly with LLM workloads. Which kernel was used in these tests?

Prime95 is my gold standard for CPU and memory testing. Everything from desktops to HPC and clustered filesystems get a 24 hour “blend” of tests. If that passes without any instability or bit flips then we’re ready for production.

I was pleasantly surprised a few days ago to find Supermicro sells a 3U chassis that runs 8x Ryzen 7000 series CPUs supporting ECC. If one doesn’t need more than 128GB of RAM per system then they can get much higher clock speeds at a much lower power envelope than an EPYC CPU with an equivalent core count.

This would be very useful to me in helping to source CPUs for a +40PB Ceph cluster that I’m building at a University. Could this be extended to include server grade AMD SP3 CPUs? I’m in the market soon for +30 Milan processors.

I think we should really take a moment to thank RIM for what they've done for the market place. If it weren't for them, where would mobile instant messaging be?

Think down the road to when most of us will be moving on from Google to the next great "thing"

I know when that time comes that I will be forever thankful that I was able to share personal documents with family members overseas using Google Drive.

We should be thanking them for being a part of the cycle that is the modern world of technology; a stepping stone and a changing interface for information exchange.

Forgive me if I've heard wrong or if this is just wishful thinking, but doesn't Google do this with Navigation? I believe there's an option to view a traffic layer and from what I've seen in my commutes, it's fairly accurate for gauging traffic density. It should also be capable of calculate travel time based upon crowdsourced traffic information from Android users.

This is the best 'feature' to come along for quite some time. Reading through the comments turned up the "Samygo Project" aimed towards rooting Samsung televisions. I can't be the only one who's longed to have a dumb terminal with a big screen and lots of fancy inputs.

I agree with the assumption of this projects application though I find it maddening that they're choosing to look 'up' instead of _down_. I believe more practical value can be obtained if that enormous computing resource were used to investigate the smallest components of the cosmos. Take Test4Theory[1] for example whose stated goal is to help in refining the accuracy of the Standard Model of Particle Physics; this would create the ability for us to derive a more accurate understanding of Nature and would exponentiate our development of technologies that are key to our species survival.

Need some good feedback here. The site was kicked off a few months ago, but traffic has been a trickle. We're new at this and some advice would be profoundly appreciated!

I'm working out of PSU on a humanitarian engineering and social entrepreneurship venture based in India. I have to say that Moodle is light years ahead of the competition. I'm speaking not just from a users perspective, but as a system administrator, it's an absolute dream to work with. Which operating system would you like to run your LAMP server from? OSX? Not my first choice, but it works fantastically all the same.

The first productive applications that will utilize these speeds will be grid-based computing projects. Initial iterations of artificial intelligence will require large computing resources (GPGPU) in addition to high bandwidth, and low latency.

Projects like 'Test4Theory' that utilize Monte Carlo simulations will help us to accurately visualize and better predict the fundamental nature of our universe. The best contributors to these kind of projects will have high bandwidth fiber connections.

The first unproductive applications will be the next generation of first person games.

The latest comment as of this writing indicates that removing iStat fixes the problem.

When does money start to become "real currency"? Numbers on an ATM machine are only representative of the physical currency that I can extract from a bank. A message on an IM window could essentially mean the same thing: "Thanks for helping me move my couch, I'll get that $20 over to you by tomorrow". So at what point does the rubber meet the asphalt and how will Apple enforce this down the road?

Trying to release a Bitcoin app on Apple's app store may preclude cautionary tales of how not to get noticed. Bringing something like this into the mainstream could otherwise be hazardous to a protocol and community that are just beginning to bloom. Perhaps this mobile market isn't ready for such a powerful application.
