If you pay a “living” wage, prices of goods will go up, and soon it will no longer be a “living” wage.

My opinions are my own.
Did they mention copying photos from your phone to a PC via USB? This is intentionally crippled and such an unpleasant experience in comparison to the experience if you have a Mac, for me at least.
- Upgrade to Windows 11, our most secure operating system ever!
This one should be in comparison to Windows 10 wrt benchmark.
What he said probably cannot be verified, even. On another note, has anyone noticed how Pichai likes to take pictures in front of others’ work for the media [1]? To me, it’s a weird feeling—- like someone taking credit for others’ work.

To your last question, I suspect neither. I think screener was inaccurate.
Yes. I was responding to the question about how the employees feel, and they feel great, precisely because all time highs (let’s ignore openai’s impact for now). Wrt openai, why should msft employees feel bad to have openai colleagues who can help further increase share price?
Wrt whether it’s just the market itself or openai, note that news of sama’s firing caused ms shares a steep drop. Then news of sama’s employment with msft help set the share price at least back to where it was before.
I would think they feel great. Share price is going through the roof purely based on hype.
No raises for everyone but they did give promotions out.
Yes, in the past they would find positions internally.
Packet-switched. :P
The most sloppy driving I've ever seen is in the us. People weaving in and out of their lane staring at a phone, people driving into ditches, driving through building walls in parking lots you name it. The reality is that many people just should not be driving a car but are forced to by abysmal american infrastructure and even worse city planning.
Likely in some case they were driving under the influence vs being on the phone.
What I am saying is when I last ran this experiment a few years back word .doc formatted files (didn’t check .docx) returned the most calls from recruiters in comparison to .txt or .pdf or .html.
Correct. You have unethical people now, you are probably “cheating” at work by taking credit for ideas not theirs.
Speaking from experience, Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) work only ideally with Word. Don’t use LaTeX unless you know for sure the individual receiving appreciates it.
Isn’t using James Gosling example as a question a fallacy in argument (i.e., loaded question)?
Also, some folks may dislike Java and this example may also convey why Sun failed in their minds.
I have thought about this myself quite a bit: Should I or should I not filter the world for my kids? Back then, as a kid, computers/Internet allowed me to access an unfiltered world. It was great! I didn’t like adults restricting what information I had or didn’t have, nurturing their own agenda in me. I am leaning to not filter what my kids will have access to... but I suppose this fulfills my agenda.
Do you happen to have a reference?
My sources are folks who have been in these layoff discussions for six months. I should have said “some” or “many” instead of “all” since I don’t have sources in “all” these places.
Pretty much this. You can have experience and also perform well in a system design interview. However, passing some of these rounds involves chance. Some interviewers are looking for specific answers. For example, some interviewers are looking for you to be knowledgeable about recent papers specific to the heavy-hitters problem. Or the two ways to best support lynchpin objects. It’s not so much as dropping well-known building blocks to construct a system but rather the interviewer asking you to design a system requiring specific characteristics you might not have any specialization in building.
All these layoffs we’re seeing were planned well over six months ago. It’s not coordinated or copy-cat. However, it may be that all the bean counters learned the same lessons in the same schools. So, given certain scenarios, their best answer is: layoff people.
Does not. Probably not legal in the US, but IANAL.
I really get the feeling that many companies are just blindly doing whatever other companies do.
They’d all have had to collude in December for this to happen. Laying off people in large companies takes a sufficient amount of planning, and isn’t accomplished in days. They need to hire external consultants to help, even.
Yeah.... Going to work at 4 am.... He must have seriously been coasting. /s
Let’s see what shakes out of the town-hall meeting next week.
1. Terrible kids grow up into terrible adults.
2. You’re among your kindred, which is why you’re now bullied less.
Are you able to add a reference? I am curious about the mention of Romans. Thanks!
Mainly due to different government systems/markets. Each nation applies certain rules to protect interests and favored companies. An article that described some is here [1].

This was more to reduce headcount but to increase drama, which in turn makes you visit Twitter more, which in turn leads to more ad impressions and money for Twitter. As EM tweeted, more people have visited Twitter now than ever before. I just deleted my account when I understood what was going on.
Because they are incompetent and limited in their knowledge.
