With a $40M - $200M estimated net worth and taking Sequoia's 30 year fund IRR of ~ 12%.

Let's assume he started with $40M and inherited it in 1970 (45 years ago). If he dumped it into a 12% IRR Mutual Fund his net worth would be: (1.12)^45 * $40,000,000 = $6.6B

which is greater than his $4B net worth.

This of course is presumptuous at a lot of levels, but the math does make sense.

I'd agree that this namespace conflict is by no means ideal. It's hard for someone to scope out the world of similarly-named packages in npm, determine which ones are actually used, and then name their package--even after investing in this process, it can be easy for one to miss something similar. That's probably why this happens so often.

People are being overly critical of atjoslin, given that he admitted in his edit that his intentions were not foul.

Boston's startup scene is dominated by MBAs who think hackers are cogs you put red bull in to get code out and technical cofounders are only worth 5% of the company. I think YC actually has done a lot to change this in the last few years as someone who interacts with the scene often, though these MBAs will never go away.

UMD is a state university--and basically, if you're not UCB, imo state schools suffer from the whole "ivy bias" that society tends to have.

This seems to be heavily inspired by thedrop.club (launched on HN several weeks ago, by YC partner Justin Kan)
