When you do a private tender offer like this, either the company or the new investors purchase common stock from employees. It's possible Stripe is issuing some preferred shares to investors as part of the transaction, but that is being offset by it acquiring common stock from employees (eg: issue 100 preferred, buy back 100 common. Net result: 0 dilution to the cap table).

this is probably closer to the truth that you might have imagined :) that at that most of the $1T+ ACH transfers that happen daily in the US banking system happen over plaintext files and SFTP (source: I've written one of these files)

Interesting. I assumed that they would develop a bigger fairing but I guess they did the match and figured out the optimal size based on demand for payload size/weight
does anyone know why they can't use the falcon heavy for these launches and launch more satellites in one go ? It says falcon 9 carries 60 satellites per launch and I'm guessing some of the limitations are due to cargo weight limits on the falcon 9 ?
this is tangential to the problem https://www.ganaz.com/ is solving I believe. Labor for industries like cruise ships (~400k), cargo ships (1.1M), dairy etc is still organized and managed very manually. You could foresee an opportunity to build a Gusto or Salesforce for these industries with a decent TAM.

For a direct flight, you're looking at about a ~10hr flight (~5620KM's). For that range, you're looking at anywhere between 10-15k/hour average price (eg: G-IV, G-650 type planes). In reality the price is higher because if you're paying for just one way, then you have to pay the same hourly rate for the plane to fly back to Colorado. If you're paying round trip, then you have to pay daily parking charges + crew fee, which adds up quickly.

English works fine. Get a roaming data plan and use google translate for situations where basic english doesn't cut it. I also print out common phrases and words and try and learn a little bit of the cultural nuances (hand signals, body language etc) which always help break the ice and make communication easier / fun.
opened the article expecting to read a wide array of tech and coordinated pyrotechnic systems used to disperse the confetti, but at the end of the day, good old human power and simple coordination does the trick. always amazed at how simple systems & processes can be magical.
- Travel more (both in number of places, and number of weird new things you try). Once you're in the throes of starting a family and settling in with a spouse, this becomes harder. A
- Learn new languages or skills (eg: music). The older I get, the harder I find this to do. I wish I'd started earlier. While this doesn't translate directly in your career, it can open new doors (eg: that assignment in Europe that requires fluency in Spanish/German that you might miss out on). It also allows you to break down cultural barriers when meeting new folks.
- Get more mentorship - find a group or person that has walked your path in your industry and learn from them. The higher quality mentor you can get, the faster your learning. Additionally, if you are inclined to go into a management position, start investing (or get your company to pay for) in a leadership coach.
- Spend less on material things (eg: new car, fancy house) and use capital as a leverage. Learn to make money work for you and grow your investment base. Additionally, use capital leverage to cut-out mundane tasks in your daily routine (eg: house cleaning) and use the saved time to double-down on other life/professional skills. Time is money.
If you embrace it, its totally fine. Lived in Pittsburgh for 2yrs before moving to Seattle and the trading of snow storms with the rain/wet weather in the winters is a win in my opinion. You have 3 fantastic ski resorts within 2hrs of Seattle & Whistler/ Mt. Baker is 4-5hrs away so plenty of opportunities for winter activities. Wineries in WA and OR are open all year around (AFAIK) and plenty of winter brews to enjoy all around.

Both wife and myself signed up and spent 30 minutes riding to Santa Monica. Great advertisement, cool factor and high word of mouth marketing.
The merchant pays anywhere from 1.6% to 3% of the transaction amount in fees to the payment processors/gateways. Part of this goes to Visa/MC and the issuing banks. Apple gets a cut from them and that's how they make money/break even. The Seller pays their card issuer directly or indirectly. You're not interacting with Apple pay support as Apple pay is not the one processing your payment - its simply storing your card securely and generating a payment token for the merchant when invoked.
