You are paying a pretty decent chunk of this for the mac OS too, because you can get similar spec Windows laptop for half the price

Most American thing I read today. Wish my manager would talk about how to help me make more money and what to do to improve. Don't know about you but all my managers in EU just talk lame work stuff and actively avoid any pay related issues and improvement points.
That's good advice but will have to say that it is unfortunately out of your control. It has a lot to do with genetics than people want to admit.
I have health and mental conditions that interfere with my mental abilities and makes career progression difficult and it's all due to being born with those.
So yeah do eat healthy and exercise but also be realistic. Some people have it easy and take it for granted, other don't, such is life.

This is all true but note you've still started grinding in your 20s. I'm thinking more like if you take a teen or early 20s and they grind 10k hours on leetcode and you take a 30s or older and they put 10k hours too who would come ahead? My bet would be on the young ones.

Where do you even find these remote US jobs, they are either some big US companies that have local offices or US startups that don't take non-US people?
yet CS stuff is exactly what they ask you for on interviews. I really don't know how interviewers keep up with this or they just read the answers of their own questions
Remote made me very isolated, and especially in a team where we are 3 people and everyone else is 15 years older than me with kids and I have nothing in common with them. I could go do random meetups outside work but that's usually weekends as I live further away from bigger city, so that means that at least 5 days of the week I stay home barely talking to anyone.

I understand exactly what OP means and I've been looking for something like this too.
When it comes to sports I think it needs to be something with lower physical bar such as table tennis, archery, shooting. Unlikely you can compete on world level but at least locally.
For other things I think certain computer games might do but you will be competing with kids that play 12 hours every day so again you can only compete on small scale and in my experience online competitive games attract the most toxic people. You can try Geoguessr which I think is your best option.
Then you have the more arty skills such as stand-up comedy, music production, cooking all can be competitive if you are into any of these and your age shouldn't matter much in fact it might help.
I don't think you can become competitive programmer if you haven't started at young age and went to good math schools and won a few local competitions/olympiads. Learning this at 30 will get you only so far
While I sympathize this is still a lot better than working your life away for some random no-name company and get paid peanuts and not even have the option to move out of that.
I'm mostly talking EU here because making peanuts barely applies for any US job but in the end I'm a Sr Dev and still barely have time to have friends/spouse while struggling to have any savings and living in HCOL.
I'd say count your blessings, it can always be worse.
Not in me but I noticed in colleagues who have kids. It's impossible to have virtual meeting with them since the kid keeps screaming the whole time and they have to keep attending to it. Honestly if you are in this situation please do everyone a favor and either find someone to take care of that kid while you work or go to office.
if it pays you more and you can't make the same at current company then go, kind of a no brainer
because they are relative to who interviews you, 2 different people will give you completely different reasons
where else are you going to work that pays highest and has better practices than most if not FAANG/HFT?
