Is it only me or does future look gloomy? I'll set a low bar, as long as we don't kill enough skilled workers (pick your flavor of annihilation) we, humans, should be able to carry on trajectory of technical evolution even if world order changes in next few decades.

I am with you but you missed a key issue of comparison: granularity.
Unix Epoch is by definition at granularity of seconds. How do you compare 2 epochs where one is in seconds while other in milliseconds. We sort of end up in same comparison game.
Can someone with more understanding than me please comment what can be acheived with this tech in next decade or several decades.

I wonder how did this really happen? I mean, mountains don't move, at least not the the timescale of a submarine's motion: 1. Don't submarine use some form of radars to figure what's around then and where are they headed? 2. Assuming there were radars, were there no alarms or were the alarms ignored?
Wow! If we can go from code to diagram, can we also go the other way? It'll be awesome if I can draw seq. diagrams for my service and code gets generated from it.

As a small investor (investing around few thousand USD), how do I know which app to trust? There is Robinhood and Stash for ETFs and Stocks and then there are robot-wealth mangers like WealthFront etc.
Should I always stick to big firms like Vanguard or Fidelity? Thing I don't like about firms like Vanguard and Fidelity is that you cannot buy fraction of a unit which Robinhood/Stash allow you to do.

I see where you are coming from. Here is my perspective, think of this like a outage of your service. No one has exact answers so team starts to dive in and starts sharing what they find.

If by "share" you mean one writer and others with read-only access, then staleness of data is a question. In java we have volatile for that, I think there is a similar keyword in C++. However, you'll have to maintain the invariant of "one writer and others with read-only access". If you don't need absolute latest version, you can do message passing/pubsub etc.
If by "share" you mean multiple writers, I'll have to question your design decision. Why do multiple threads have to write to same memory location? Most of the time, you can get away with partitioning/sharding.

I (almost) always fall victim of one-off errors in competitive programming when working with counting numbers in range. Sticking to convention like 2 ≤ i < 13, as Dijkstra observed for Mesa programmers, sounds like a good idea.
But do you see the difference between Boston Dynamics (BD) and {Savioke, Fetch Robotics, Bear Robotics, MiR} ?
BD's robots move using limbs while others use small-er wheels which limits the terrains these robots can be used in.
This is standard task scheduling problem (see CLRS section 17.5) with added constraint of slowing down processing as number of tasks finishes. This added constraint is justified by the fact that as people board they won't stay put in their seats in aircraft, they move move around increasing the time to board for passengers who haven't boarded yet.
This still remains a greedy problem and hence allowing slower passengers to board first will reduce overall time taken to board.

Humor me for a minute: (from strictly scientific view point)
Universe began with just photons disintegrating to matter and anti-matter. Starting from that somehow proteins evolved and eventually animated matter (life). On a very boring planet after 5 complete extinctions of "animated matter", humans show up who have the audacity to attempt to understand beginning of universe and controlling the forces which created them.
And now, you sir, suggest that this rudimentary life form will never be able to travel to an exo-planet and thrive. Well, to put it mildly, you are lacking perspective.

On a serious note, I hear you and agree with you to a certain extent.
Indulge me for a moment, in long run most likely universe will end up in heat death. So yes, we are screwed. But right now, it's time for action. We need to think of engineering solutions.
There are 2 key problems here:
1. amount of CO2 in atmosphere
2. heat added by sun every day.
Fix any one of them and we stand a chance. There are ways of fixing it from accelerating photosynthesis (chemically or by optimizing plant growth by controlling env. it's growing in etc.) or having a sun shade at L1 or just literally planting more trees.
I am assuming you are a techie, so you are well equipped with tools and you are certainly not happy, so you have a motivation.
We may not be able to solve it perfectly we can certainly make a huge dent.
