I made the jump to AFFiNe (https://affine.pro/) a few months ago and have really liked using it. I am able to self host and have found it to be a _nearly_ 1:1 replacement for Notion. Affine's database implementation isn't nearly as nice though - but they are workable and they are improving.

My biggest gripe is that the OSS project is very oriented around a hosted product rather than the self hosted - so things like AI configuration is tricky at best and ive had to manually manipulate my account in the db to remove "free" user limitations.

It is suitable for individuals, I used it for a couple years and was very happy with it. I only decided to move on because I wanted a local database that I could mine as my personal knowledge base.

I always go to https://www.govtrack.us/ to view this sort of thing. I don't know if it is _good_ but it's a pretty good tool from my point of view

What do you mean by "an executive branch that is controlled by a city" ? I thought the executive branch was headed by the president who then has most of the say about who heads up the departments. I don't think the president or the people he appoints to run positions have anything to do with the city, they can come from outside of D.C.

I don't think a presidential candidate has ever run on adding more debt either, but that has increased at an even higher rate. How about birth rate? I don't think any candidate has campaigned on lowering the birthrate either, but that has dropped from 17.6 per thousand in 1970 to 12 per thousand in 2020.

I would really like to understand why you believe that the executive branch doesn't have the ability to govern because people that would be carrying out the laws must also be politically aligned with the laws. I also would like to hear why you think that just because something wasn't part of any presidential campaign it somehow supports your opinion that the people who carrying out the instructions in the laws - is an explanation for how the president and cabinet don't have any real power.

I totally agree and is probably the main reason I don't use my Rift more - it takes me to another location.

Is a very important point, I think the social (especially with covid) aspect of VR for people that are not together might be the angle that Apple is looking at.

I had a similar and frustrating issue where my 2 factor auth was re-enabled after I manually disabled when I knew I was giving up my phone. They eventually helped, but it took longer than I would like.

I don't know about that - I can pick up a ESP8266 dev board for under $5 individually on mouser - I feel like I should be able to get that cost down significantly if I am building millions. I am not an expert in manufacturing at all but it seems like I should be able get a small enclosure and battery for under $1.50 in high enough quantities.

Fair enough, I am not a graphic designer and I am using Angular Material colors in the app - I thought they looked interesting enough that it might get some attention so I used them there - and then carried that over into the landing/help site.

I built a cash forecasting app (http://www.money-stew.com) that I use religiously to verify that I won't have any trouble paying my bills.

I actually managed to get some traffic and ad revenue ($100< a month) when I first developed it and got it into the Google web app store and was featured for a little bit. I think there where quite a few bugs that I ignored and I stopped work on it for a long while.

I continue to try and improve on it, but it rarely gets the bulk of my free time.

Its been difficult for me to get _any_ feedback on it, so I bounce back and forth between feeling like its a worthwhile venture or its just a pet project that is useful to nobody but me.

Do you honestly believe that complaints are not classified and plugged into some sort of analytics system at the absolute minimum? I could never imagine that any company with half a clue would not be trying to quantify their support requests in some way.

I do agree that a product that functions on bad code is better than no product at all. If there where very terrible design decisions made in the beginning. This could have a very negative impact as the business starts to add customers.

A terrible codebase will _eventually_ fail to serve customers for a few different reasons. Scalability is huge and may be very difficult to find performance problems and fix. maintenance time, and time to add new features are places where a terrible codebase will eventually impact a customer.

It is always listening just like your dog is always listening. If you are not talking to it and you are not saying its name you are being (mostly) ignored.

Most of the time, it is not paying attention - the chip that is processing the sound is looking for the ONE word that will activate it. That passive audio processing is happening locally on a chip that is dedicated to the task. Once activated - the expensive processing happens and the sound gets processed, converted to text, sent to the cloud.

I was thinking this too, only about jet skis and other RVs (I was hoping that is what I would find when I clicked on the link) - I would think there is a lot of opportunity for something like Airbnb for four wheelers, jet skis, camping trailers.

My biggest issue with buying an unsubsidized phone is that I would still be paying the carrier a premium for subsidizing a phone purchase (to my understanding) without actually getting that benefit. (I guess there are other carriers, I have not actually bothered to look) In the end I just seem to be loosing about $400 or so since my phone bill remains the same, but I have to spend more to buy the phone.

Ok, one huge grip - don't make me verify my email, that adds a whole huge step to the account creation process.

Also, If I click on a link in the blog, the feedlooks bar should go away, I dont want that hanging around - or at least open the link in another window, like greader.

Overall though, I really like the idea - really cool ,and nice implementation - I will try using this over greader for now :)

I think you are kind of missing what is going on with a lot of html 5 development. There is actually little need to communicate with the server with a lot of web apps. Like illustrator, look at Aviary (I think they use flash right now) but the application is in the browser but all computation happens on the client, the only communication with the server would be to save the file. I see this being the same way with audio/video etc. There is the overhead and the performance issues, but not really a delay.

Computers and cars have different usages in different situations. The iPad is clearly not developed for development work or tinkering, it is a step above a smart phone and intended to be used in a similar way. Just like the Toyota Camry is clearly not built for racing, it is made for transportation and intended to be used for people that will never open the hood.

Both have a target audience that really doesn't need to be confused with extra bells and whistles that are going to add complexity for the average person that does not want to use the device for more than the intended purpose.

I really don't understand why everyone is angry that the iPad takes another step away from tradition of computing to help make computers more accessible to a broader audience, and requires less knowledge of how the computer works (which many people would be happy about, maybe not you or I, but people that do not have careers or hobbies tinkering with computers)

I agree, with all of that - I just want to emphasize the need to clear up the front page. With all the text the same size I have a really difficult time finding what I need, I had to click on the why page to figure that out (the first line would be better on the front page : "Step-by-step instructions along with videos and images Cook a meal as if guided by a famous chef personally, get instructions when and what should be done with a recipe plan" - A link to an example page would be great to - or some sort of slideshow.

I had a really difficult time just getting the gist of what you are doing there but was really put off by the large block of over sized text on the front page.
