Best we can do is flag such articles, but HN seems to upvote them anyway so I seem to be in the minority.

Interesting choice of word; I wasn’t whinging, just trying to explain to the other commenter something useful. Flagging gives zero detail or nuance. Which presumably is why you replied instead of flagging my comment ;)

If you allowlist javascript then yes your annoyance is tangential, and no it is not interesting for us to read you complain about. Hence why the HN guideline (that was quoted above) exists.

(I also allowlist javascript. Regardless of your philosophical standpoint, many websites do break. If you don’t want “smacks me in the face multiple times a day” then stop allowlisting javascript.)

Nowadays most of my processing happens on the GPU, so htop/top better evolve or become mostly irrelevant

If you’re a 3D rendering designer, an ML engineer or a crypto bro, then sure.

Here are the common workloads (for the average SWE on HN) that use CPU/RAM:

  - compilation/builds
  - language servers and IDEs
  - test suites
  - local containers
  - local databases
  - node tooling
  - browsers
  - data processing
  - compression and encryption
  - searching/indexing
Ok sure, top/htop is totally irrelevant now /s
Knoppix 22 days ago

I remember also hosing the bootloader somehow on my first try of Linux, luckily my personal desktop so no collatoral damage!

After that I always had a CD wallet thing with copies of sysresccd and supergrubdisk and others (including I think an old knoppix cd from a linux magazine).

Happy NextDNS user. Lots of configurability, including which filterlists to enable, configurable logging etc.

Plus it’s reliable and fast from basically anywhere (which is harder to achieve if I ran my own resolvers in the cloud, and anyway I don’t want to have to maintain that).

Your stance seems to be that interacting with any Russian means supporting genocide, regardless of if they support Putin. Which is so absurd as to be likely ragebait. So yes, it’s a quality issue :)

And if you’re discriminating against all Russians based on their government, even though not all Russians support Putin, then that is unfortunately just racism.

Vivaldi 8.0 2 months ago

If version 8.0 makes you raise your eyebrows, just wait til you see what version Firefox and Chrome are on!

I didn’t refute a link between environmental factors and ear wax production. Nor did I say improving diet isn’t a good thing in general.

But changing your diet won’t help with ear wax. And cotton swabs are a bad idea.

You seem upset; this is just a discussion on an internet forum. It’s ok for people to have different opinions and share them in a thread :)
