there are several services here (and I'm sure in other countries too) where you have a web page and can send messages for more or less money. look for "send sms" on Google and I'm sure you'll find some. The carrier may offer a web based service to which you can connect and send messages to. Sending sms from a web page is nothing new, not paying for it is :). Try to understand the idea of giving stuff for free to your users. The number of the users will increase exponentially (well, depending on the service you're giving) .

the carrier will charge for the sms. but the user won't pay for sending the sms. I/my service will pay for the sms. The money will come from those who'll want to insert ad messages.

of course it is...but a service which sends 1.000 or more messages, can negotiate a good price for the sms. For example let's say 4 cents. If you charge the publishers 4 cents for each ad, you'll be able to pay for the messages. If you negotiate a better price or charge more for the ads, you'll make extra cash ;) Advertising on mobile phones is a really hot topic these days. But most of the implemented solutions are like this: you agree with the service to receive advertising messages, and you get something in return. This is not very efficient because the users can delete the messages without even opening them. I'll give more details in a dedicated article so stay tunned.

When you come-up with an idea for a startup, how do you evaluate it? How do you conclude that it's good, that it has potential to become a good service? Let me know what you think about the criteria I've described into this short article.

I'm using a 24" iMac and it's great for development. A MacBook whould come in handy if you want mobility and it has a nice price also. I don't think you'll have performance issues with any laptop you might choose.

I don't think Google or other search engine for that matter will make any distinction if it's blog.companyurl or companyurl/blog. You can choose whichever, it will make no difference in how the Page Rank is computed.

yeap, I'm pretty interested into this subject also. I don't have any grounds in this field, it's just about personal experience in dealing with smart/dumb people. and it's not related only to being smart or not, it's related to everything, even sports. I've met people who've set their mind to be great at something and they succeeded.

I'm not talking about those exceptions who read or write when others can barely speak, I'm referring to the majority here. I don't agree with one of your points: intelligence is not changeable by effort, it's actually changeable by mindset and self confidence.

For example the number one guy in my university was also the guy working the most. but he was not brilliant, he was only really determined to be the best. thanks for your comments ;)

why do you think some of us are good at what we do and others are not?

what do you think is a best approach for a startup? waiting for a brilliant idea, or starting with a simple idea and then focusing on giving a good experience to your customers?

I'd say successful companies applied CMM after they became successful, not before that.

I've also seen a bad implementation of CMM. indeed, if not implemented wisely, it adds a lot of unneeded redundancy.

why don't you post the idea here? I think the man behind the idea is the best to implement the idea, so posting it here doesn't look like a real threat, at least in my opinion...unless the idea is really brilliant :)

There aren't too much articles with step-by-step guides on launching start-ups because there is no recipe. The best recipe is get on your feet and do it. Don't wait for dos and donts. This is what all the articles and experienced people recommend. So, start doing it and have fun while doing it.
