Startup School 2010 - the recap, highlights & lessons

Step 1. VD3 blood test is a must to determine whether one is deficient. If you work indoors all day there is a high chance you are deficient. Your GP can help you boost it up using 70K IU prescription VD3.

Step 2. Then maintenance. This is all a trial and error and more blood tests. 800 IU / the national recommendation is a joke. Dr. Fauci takes 6,000 IU each day. (see FOIA docs with his email saying what he takes).

I work in tech and take 10 IU each day and have maintained a ~ 60 ng/mL.

Anything over 50 ng/mL shows benefits in fighting respiratory viruses and keeping mortality close to zero. ref: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34684596/#&gid=article-figur...

I heard that one way to check quality is to look at the type of capacitors used on the board.

Capped are cheap and don’t last long (they have a vent on top) and when they blow they spread white residue on the board. The solid capacitors don’t suffer from this, last much much longer but do cost a bit more.

Ps. Maybe someone with more electrical knowledge than I can confirm or debunk this?

I wouldn't call it arbitrary sequence, it's a specific sequence ie. s protein for covid.

Saying that, it's now a known cause of blood clotting in some recipients: https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.abl8213

"chimpanzee adenovirus Y25 (ChAdOx1), human adenovirus type 5 (HAd-V-C5) and human adenovirus type 26 (HAdV-D26) — the scientists found that ChAdOx1 had a strong negative charge, which meant that it attracted PF4, which has a positive charge."

I’m not talking about inactivation with formaldehyde. If they did that in the viral vector it would disable the delivery mechanism (adenovirus).

Yikes. Sorry to hear this procedure didn't go as you hoped.

For me I tried radiofrequency at PAMF but it only lasted about a year before my nasal issues returned and I ended up getting septoplasty with turbinate reduction. For me it was mostly a success and to this date I enjoy breathing through my nose with ease. I wonder whether the difference between mine and yours is the volume of turbinate reduction.

Prior to all this I was hooked on Afrin for 2 years. Lost my sense of smell. Bloody oxymetazoline! I finally understood what drug addiction is. It was awful. The rebound effect was devastating which meant I could never get off it. The rebound effect felt like I was choking at night.

My septoplasty saved me and I no longer use Afrin. My sense of smell returned after a year post surgery.

Few weeks ago I had a cold and a stuffy nose and tried Afrin which was wonderful but stopped it after 3 days. That stuff is evil!

Today, I only use NeilMed Sinus Rinse morning and night and love it. It's the most effective way to clean your nasal passages and when sick it drains the passages of all the gunk. Cannot recommend the sinus rinse enough!

Replication-incompetent adenoviral vectors? Lex Fridman had a virologist on his podcast talking about the mutations done to the adenovirus to make it safe for the delivery of the s-protein (used in viral vector J&J + AstraZ vax). Maybe I misunderstood that?

This API extracts around 50+ fields in standardized JSON format inc 16 column table types (line-items) in seconds: https://www.veryfi.com/data-intelligence/

Alternative solutions are things like Mechanical turk at 1c per field or other solutions which vary in accuracy and typically use human in the loop and can range up to $1 per invoice.

In the end, it all depends on your application. If you need 1 or 2 fields then you can get away with other solutions. If you are building a competitive secure product and will use this wealth of data for business intelligence (cpg retail, bill pay, hotel folio) then 16c for a starter plan without a contract is a great price.

There's a free 14 day trial here https://hub.veryfi.com/api/hn/ and just requires your email to experience the product. Nothing to loose.

PS. I'm one of the founders.

Gattaca. I’m curious tho where does it stop. For example, US stopped TB vax long time ago while half of EU continues. Those born in EU bear the scars on their arms from the vax. Sure TB isn’t as prevalent in the US as it used to be but there’s nothing stopping it from coming on a plane.

Bacterial infections of the lungs are very hard to fight esp with the increase of antibiotic resistance. A single cough from a TB infected individual used to be a death sentence to the receiver (prior to antibiotics).

So where does all this start and end. If we are serious about health while traveling then let’s go all in across the germ spectrum and see what happens ;-)

I’d love to see planes reporting on cabin air quality as well. I’m sure I’m not the only one who gets sick (pre Covid) when traveling long haul.

I’m sick and tired of this ego protection through projection. These attitudes go nowhere. The CA fires are “wildfires” right? They start in those beautiful golden Californian grassy hills. Imagine if the state leadership took care of that land they own through back-burning to avoid forest destruction. What can the state control today; better land management. Let’s start there and see how far it gets us. Global warming isn’t an overnight fix but land management might.

So first you denounce my statement then you agree with it (around vaccines)?

I’m comparing RNA based viruses not diseases. If the keyword “flu” offends you because you think I’m comparing it to the flu then replace it with any RNA based virus and it’s mutation rate. You’ll realize fast that the thing called cure is only 100% effective when the mutation rates are close to 0.

I have been following this mess. I’m an Aussie in CA.

Even when a vaccine is available it’s not going to be 100% effective. Contrast it to another RNA based virus (but faster mutating) like influenza. The annual shot effectiveness fluctuates based on what is the dominant strain socially circulating.

Therefore, the science Dan is subscribed to means Vic will be locked down indefinitely. Sure ppl love the lockdowns but the reality will hit hard when they realize there is no such thing as “pause” in the economy. It’s a hard stop followed by CPR.

What ever happened to real science; you know, the one where we learn and adapt as new information is made available. I’m pretty sure we now know a lot more about this virus, demographics most at risk, it’s disease management etc...

As Frank Herbert says; Fear is the mind killer.

This article bugged me. It spoke about the fridge as a preservation tool but failed to point to the freezer. The very important part of a fridge! We all know that the freezer plays a big role in preserving all our produce. I cut and freeze all the bread I buy and bake and when I defrost it, it’s top notch!

I read that “every year on the Monday after the springtime switch, hospitals report a 24% spike in heart-attack visits around the US.”. Source: https://www.businessinsider.com/daylight-saving-time-is-dead...

If this is true then daylight saving is a bigger killer than covid-19.

Why is this even up for a debate when we killed every country’s economy for Covid but here we are debating how our lifestyles will need to change if we remove daylight savings. ️
