I work at a law firm specializing in IPO. I had the same thought in mind when I joined.

Hiring more people does help but there will still not be 40 hour work weeks. In many instances, some people in the team has built up the knowledge on a particular part of the deal that it is difficult to outsource since it would be much faster for the person to complete the work themselves.

Hiring more people also means that the information is diffused around. If one person working on a deal it means that he knows 100% about the deal. If 100 people is working on the same deal, efficiency would greatly decrease as knowledge management becomes important (lots of emails).

Rules of being acquired:

1st rule: you do not talk about the money 2nd rule: you DO NOT talk about the MONEY 3rd rule: you talk about how the acquirer and acquiree shares the same vision and dreams that would enable the acquiree to build great things.

...it might not seem obvious why Oculus is partnering with Facebook...But when you consider it more carefully, we’re culturally aligned with a focus on innovating and hiring the best and brightest

Looks like ALL companies in this world would be a good fit for a facebook acquisition.

I am aware of everything u said.

Coinbase is dealing with real money here. Just on HN today, 30k USD have been locked up. Assuming 50 customers suffer from the same problem and same amount, they locked up 1.5 million USD. Bitcoin's has dropped its value from 1200 to 600 in 2 weeks. Assuming that trend continues, Bitcoin can potentially wipe out half of their customer's money. I know that is just a hypothetical but this is a real possibility.

You cannot excuse yourself for poor customer service just because you are a 'startup'.

Agreed. When there is a public outcry, it means that there is inadequate processes are put into place for protect their customers. This happened twice today. This means something is fundamentally broken in Coinbase's customer service.

Many famous VCs and founders browse HN. This will hurt their reputation.

The hard part is to find a great contractor that is not only technically skilled but responsible. Very difficult

Can u refer me to ur contractor in India?

You should check out Mass Transit Railway from HK - code MTR in the HK stock exchange. They make tonnes of money.

Westerners have been monetizing mass transport system incorrectly. You don't make money from fares. You make money from real estate + advertising. The real estate prices around areas with MTR spikes a significant amount.

I hope you would seriously think hard about what you want in life.

You sound to me that you are a smart, bright and hardworking person. But for once in your life, you found yourself out-competed and out-networked and you are trying to "pivot" to another career. There is nothing wrong with that. Think hard about what you want. Are you switching to another career because it is prestigious?

Interactive Resume 13 years ago

most ppl won't find the time to make something like this.

the interactive resume, itself is a showcase of his skills.

It would be useful if someone can tag the topics.

HN is useful to see what is hot. Hot does not mean it is relevant to all of us. If I am raising money, I would be interested in topics tagged to raising money - the fact that you (fred wilson) posted, up voted, commented the topic is a good signal that topic is relevant.

I also like the idea of commenting system that rapgenius and medium deploys. I believe that the idea of seeing the most up voted comment is broken. You might have something to say on a particular sentence in fund raising article- I'm interested to see that. Others may have interesting things to say about other sentences. If USV can pull content online and allow people to comment each sentence, I believe this would really add value to our community.

I agree. But this isn't about how much money the company is worth but the amount of control she has.

As seen before, most people don't get to sit on the Head of Retail chair for a long time and can be removed by Tim Cook at any time. Angela could have stayed as CEO for at least one more decade.

I assume that they are compensating her heavily for his move.

curious. how do you estimate how much an app is worth? Are you discounting future cash flows? If the total networth of Supercell is at 1.5B then selling it at 1.5B for 51% is not a bad deal (assuming that its value does not increase)

Big contrast to Gungho (the purchaser) and Rovio, which is worth $455,438,581 and $145,714,888.
