I post links to my blog post from time to time. Although none of them made a buzz here in HN but a few of you have contacted me in the past looking at my posts/blog. I have worked as a contractor for some of them and it has been wonderful working with them. Not to mention, you get paid a lot as a contractor.

Most of the time, you need ot add/edit your recent work experience. Rest of the things stay same (in general). Not hard to do that once in a while Although, I update only when I apply for a new job.

Not directly with StackOverflow but when I search for something, usually I meet with outdated results on google. For e.g. if I search for something on iOS/Android, I usually get results from 2011-13 which don't add any value because frameworks have been updated since then.

I started writing blog 5-6 years ago. Initially, there was no tracktion. With time, as the content grew and a few of my posts got attention on HN and StackOverflow; I started getting requests from companies to work for them. A few of them were small gigs but I have been working with 2 companies as a freelancer since last 6 years.

Yeah, I had GitLab on my mind when I wrote my comment. I do think it's unfair for a fully remote company but they have their reasons. Its unfortunate developers with the same skill set can have a massive gap in salary because they live in different locations even though they bring same value to the company.

Hot topic nowadays. I have also given it a lot of thought but couldn't come to any conclusion.

It's true, living in SF/NYC and India, you will have a significant difference in monthly expenditures. But does it make sense to pay differently to persons who bring the same value to the company just because they are living in different locations?

IMO if you are a fully remote company, it shouldn't make any difference. People can choose to work from wherever they are and should get paid equally. If you have an office and hire a remote worker, it would make sense if you are paying lower to remote workers working from countries with lower wages.

No raises is gonna be the new norm then.

And the stock market has been pumped globally, which shows the Economy has nothing or very little to do with the stock market.

I write about tech stuff I find useful while working during my job. Recently I have started writing about my hobbies (gardening, short stories etc.). If anybody has some suggestions, feel free to drop a line.

Interesting results. I am also a remote worker and glad to see this trend is picking up. Everything has upsides and downsides but upsides of working remotely outweigh downsides buy quite a margin. Not only working remotely gives peace of mind (little flexibility on working hours.); working in a familiar/comfortable environment increases productivity, especially for people like me who are a little uncomfortable when surrounded by other people. (bonus you can sit awkwardly in you PJs)

TLDR: A research by Uni Toronto suggests that the coronavirus epidemic started one month earlier than is commonly reported (Nov 2019) and has yet to be brought under control.

David Fisman, one of the model’s creators said: “You can’t get up to that level of cases if the epidemic started in December. even if you pushed the reproduction really high. The plausible start date seems to be mid-November,”

Wikipedia lists[1] start date to be Dec 1, 2019 and with Fever, cough, shortness of breath etc as symptoms[2], I think it's difficult to predict even for doctors exact date of the outbreak.

From what I've read it came from bats. Most probably bats being eaten.[1]

Bats have been the source of at least 4 pandemics. It's interesting to note that current coronavirus spreading in China and the SARS outbreak of 2003 have two things in common: Both are from the coronavirus family, and both were passed from animals to humans in a wet market.[2]

This is what I wish to do. Unfortunately, I don't have the courage to do so b because I think I'd get bored traveling alone. I don't like city life much and think of traveling to different places as I am a freelancer and I have that luxury to go nomad.

Like most of here pointed out, I didn't charge high enough. When I started I was afraid if I charge too much, they will leave.

But still, I haven't learned from my mistakes. I charge way too less compared to what people posted here. I don't increase the price continuously. PLUS I don't market myself much. I heard word of mouth marketing is best for freelancers but I am yet to get a gig from word of mouth marketing.
