Can you clarify "dynamic agentic workflows?" I use their agent node and it works great but what are you trying to do with it? The "doorway effect" seems to be one expression of that larger phenomenon in which memory recall is largely influenced by the context in which it was encoded. It's the reason that if you're cramming for an exam, to the extent you can recreate the exact conditions of your study environment to mirror those of the test-taking environment, you'll do better.

I didn't get the slapstick element. The series is worth finishing - the scope of it is just incredible. I would say top 3 sci-fi stories of all time. I actually just read the 4th book which is a work of fan fiction that apparently was sanctioned by Cxin Liu. Love this series so much.

I rarely comment on HN but this article struck a nerve as I have worked at a handful of toxic bureaucracies that suffered from this issue back in the day. It's incredibly demoralizing and yet every place like this eventually reaches a weird equilibrium that preserves this mess as this unspoken pact amongst the people who are getting paid for nothing (queue "Office Space" scene - "what would you say you dooooo here Bob?").

If you're not in debt and massively dependent on the job my best advice is run, don't walk, to find a place where you can get paid for value delivered. Startups are generally not afflicted by this cancer because there's simply no place to hide- everyone is doing six jobs and it would be nearly impossible to conceal this level of inefficiency. And if it ever did proliferate in a startup then that's _definitely_ not some place you want to be. It sounds like you've gotten a few bad dice rolls but rest assured there are plenty of good startups out there creating important products, paying their employees and valuing their work.

As challenging as startups are, I would way rather take that environment any day over the slow boil (or the slow bake following the lasagna analogy) and gradual erosion of my soul at the Office Space job.

One other thought for you: if your circumstances dictate that you _must_ stay in a toxic job environment like this and there's simply zero way to change the environment or leave, partition your work life into a box so that toxicity doesn't permeate the rest of your life. Clock-in, tolerate the nonsense, laugh about it with colleagues then clock-out and find your meaning from other pursuits, whether that's spending time with your family, taking up a hobby, doing volunteer work, whatever. It's great when your job produces a sense of meaning but if meaning is absent from that, you can definitely find or create it elsewhere. I've spent the past year building up https://Problemattic.app for just this scenario. I was fortunate to have finished a 26-yr career in various tech roles and now have the luxury to try and work on solving this issue. I'm convinced now more than ever that it's possible to find a profound sense of meaning by applying those professional skills that are currently squandered and redirecting at least a fraction of them towards the pursuit of solving important societal issues.

Anyways good luck. We can always use data science people so feel free to peruse the projects and contribute a few data science cycles to anything that grabs you. Or propose a project and rally a team if you have an idea for something not currently listed. cheers

I totally empathize with this. I am no expert meditator- I've been practicing for 5yrs and have only gotten glimpses of that stillness, "mind like water" phenomenon people talk about. Passbolt is a great open source option: https://www.passbolt.com/ It has the team collaboration functionality and is free & OSS. We run it on Digital Ocean via Docker. Once you get it working it's pretty fantastic- it has a Chrome/Brave extension that works just like 1Password and LastPass for auto-filling credentials. Highly recommend.

IANAL but pretty sure trademark is based on first provable public use for commercial purposes. You should be able to contest the mark on that basis. Just screenshot the WHOIS record showing you had the domain 7yrs ago and hire a lawyer to write a cease & desist to them. Just because you hold the trademark doesn't make it necessarily defensible if it's proven that it was obtained surreptitiously. Depending on what you learn from the lawyer and how aggressive you want to play it threaten counter suit for damages and escalate.

But agree with all comments: get a lawyer before you do anything.

@nikoraisu so you use Pipedrive in addition to ActiveCampaign for the kanban aspect of managing deals through the sales cycle? @rishabhkaul1 also mentioned that he's trying to figure out how to manage his funnel process and looking at adding Pipedrive. I'm just curious why you don't use the kanban-style deal tracking pipelines in AC for this rather than bolt on additional software? You can trigger stage moves, status changes, etc or have those events as goals in automations that trigger emails/slack messages/etc. Do you gain some other benefit by adding Pipedrive to your stack vs. just using the native AC functionality for this? Given that both of you mentioned it maybe I'm missing something...

@lawik not sure if you caught this the other day https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23981563 <- that person proposes an interesting solution specifically in the context of supporting open source software that would seemingly address this fatigue phenomenon you experience: a monthly pool that you can apportion so it dilutes and supports the projects you choose. That way you set the total monthly contribution and then you're just carving that up. Assuming there was a simple enough one-click interface for doing so that could be one way to address this. Of course you'd have to get a critical mass of makers to adopt the standard in order for it to take off (or convince the Patreon's and Github's of the world to adopt it).

@jim The issue is it's in Adalo which is a nocode platform currently without the ability to execute scripts and with no concept of a "cron-like" process that can run periodically and do garbage collection. It's also not possible to expose Adalo collections externally and run this logic via external process so he's left with the prospect of doing a kludgy hack trying to imitate wp-cron in his app to make something that will delete old photos periodically. It's just easier to have a VA do this once per month instead.

De-authing the camera from the wireless network isn't necessarily going to stop it from recording. Manything for instance will pile up footage offline and sync it when it gets an internet connection again... should probably be clarified in the article that it's not stopping the recording but merely disrupting the internet connection of the camera

Yes. We had rolled out a Devpay-backed product called "Cloud Gear" about a year ago and ended up pulling it off the shelf due primarily to two irreconcilable issues: 1. their accounting process appeared to have some fundamental innacuracies at the time. We tracked the launching of instances and our numbers did not match up with theirs. There was anomalous usage behavior and Amazon eventually admitted there had been tracking glitches on their end - difficult to deliver a service if the underlying accounting can't be trusted. Note: this may have been (likely has been) remedied since but it was problematic around January '10. 2. As another commenter noted, the signup process for a newcomer was too much to ask of someone who didn't already happen to have an AWS account. And even for those who did it was still a cumbersome hamster maze to put them through and undoubtedly hurt the adoption numbers.

#1 has likely been resolved. #2 is inherent to this type of on-behalf-of arrangement. It is an interesting model and could definitely enable some innovative services. We just found it not ready for primetime when we had tested it back in late '09-early'10.

Marc, thanks for the post-mortem. We make the best decisions we can w/ the info we have at the time - this is definitely a useful piece for other founders to read. Hopefully airing things out like that serves an "expunging" purpose and helps you clear it and move on. Best of luck in whatever your next pursuit is.

If the wikileaks guys are smart enough to have made it this far you can bet they've already set up a "dead man switch" torrent file somewhere that will self-tweet and self-publish the video x days from now if they fail to check in. PR stunts aren't their style- this smells like either a disinformation campaign to discredit them or a smoke screen for something else. It wasn't an optimal solution but it at least attempted to redirect the costs of poor eating choices to the people who make the bad decisions. The proposal from the NYT article is way simpler and more effective:

yank the "preexisting condition" defense from insurance companies and they become instantly incented to encourage healthy eating. Current advocates of proper eating habits gain a powerful ally at that point.
