Horrible reporting: This article leads people to believe Godaddy moved all of their customers DNS over to Verisign.
All Godaddy did was temporarily move their single godaddy.com DNS to verisign so they could display a 'we are working on it' message to visitors during the attack.

While I think tor and something like torchat is good in theory, its big negative in reality is that the speed makes it unusable most of the time. I didn't know about either of your companies but by the discussion, its clearly possible for Tarsnap users to derive value from the trust associated with transparency and feeling like their dollar is maximized. tptacek, pricing schemes aren't the only component of the purchase decision or profitability. His users are making a more emotional decision. cperciva should stick to the core of what his users are finding valuable...then get bought out and turn into an evil profit maximizing company

How about an import feature from google web history. Doesn't it also index the pages you visit for searching? It has a bookmarklet and can crawl all of your web history if you tell it to

Depends on if you care about the scalability, optimization, and speed of the site. If you do then you will pay a lot for US dev
The alternative is to outsource and get all those features for 2k. Go to elance, guru, odesk, or getafreelancer.
The latter I would suggest for proof of concept of prototyping an idea. Once you get a whole bunch of traffic and users you can rebuild it correctly when it's worth it to do so.

I like that it works natively in safari on my iPhone. That's a plus. One suggestion for content, as far as the rap scene goes, I would have thought to see mixtapes released by the rapper when I type something like lil Wayne. I have heard you can remove that noise by putting magnetic snap things over the power line of the speakers you have. It looks like a capsule that opens halfway and then you snap the cord in between. I have a ton from old plasma/lcd installs as most people just throw them away in the box.

Contact the guys at domai.nr I've talked with them before. They have a integration with godaddy that is able to check availability and earn a comission if the user buys a domain name through the service. They also use 101domain for obscure .nr, .ly., etc TLDs
It's hard to shell out 10k for something that Twitter might find violates their TOS---even if it doesn't now. I am defintely passionate about the idea/model but that's a big stumbling block.

Another wordpress blog hosted on godaddy that got hacked. Luckily, I caught it when it started redirecting and was able to restore the hosting account to a week prior. Coincidently I was moving my hosting over to media temple that weekend and fortunately didn't move the virus over.
After the headache that godaddya vulnerability caused, they sent me the exact same bullshit about updating wordpress. I have and always have updated wordpress and plugins within days of a new release.
Godaddy is for registering domains only, I learned that the hard way last weekend...
Also, I was in contact with a couple of people making money off of the base64 vulnerability: they have packages specifically for cleaning and securing the install. What's funny is that they have no way of securing it, just temporarily cleaning it until it gets hacked again. The article has some advice and you check out their services:
