I found MacWhisper to be great. I built and used my own solution for a couple of years before settling on MacWhisper.

I’ve also encountered some bugs. While debugging, I found that many stem from Apple’s platform itself (not MacWhisper) particularly around Metal and arbitrary object resource limits.

I can always feel hte MacWhisper bugs about to come on when you start to see little glitches like document icon previews in the Dock not rendering or screenshot utility not rendering the screenshot preview, brief flashes of magenta or green when resizing windows.

This seems like a wonderful way to get folk's private info. What's next, a Google Form offering to download your Gmail?

The memory price rises are flattening. Prices are still increasing but not at the rate they previously were last year.

Raspberry Pi’s keep selling because the software ecosystem is solid.

Some folks might have missed that memory prices on the whole are up [1] 90% since Q4.

The memory used by the Pi 5 is up 700% [2]!

Raspberry Pi are working the issue by releasing new memory variants that are cheaper[2].

Two things to note:

1) Apple had long term contracts for memory which will run out. Afterwards it will be very interesting to see what they do.

2) RPi uses older memory that is much much more expensive to buy in the market as manufacturers have dedicated capacity to newer formats used by AI boxes for KV caches

This is because on a COGs basis it is memory with a side of compute.

Speaking as an Australian, our productivity has been lagging[1] compared to the US, largely due to the availability of cheap labour (attributed by economists to foreign students)[2].

I heard one economist on the ABC give the example of carwashes[2]. From the 1990s to the early 2000s, car washes in Australia were largely automated and hand-wash car washes were relatively uncommon. However, the abundance of cheap labour has since led to a proliferation of hand-wash car washes.

These are all non talky talky: Siri Suggestions, Siri Knowledge (Safari / Spotlight Intelligence), Siri Shortcuts (Automation, not voice), Siri Intelligence (On-device ML features), Siri Widget/Watch face… you get the idea. There was a time when “Siri” was the catch all for Smart/ML.

Microsoft is not alone in this. Apple does the same thing!

There is Siri on iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, HomePod, Apple TV, and CarPlay and are all different different incarnation of Siri (with different capabilities). Then there is everything else like the Siri Remote, Siri Suggestions (and all their types: Siri apps suggestions, Maps, keyboard, Share Sheet, etc), Siri Shortcuts, and Siri Knowledge (WolframAlpha + Wikipedia + other databases?).

I'm sure 75% of these will be rebranded "Apple Intelligence" by the end of the year...
