It might be that humans naturally possess superstitious minds that react strongly to elements of serendipity. Even the most scientific minds will have a hard time not having an emotional response to randomly getting into a conversation that shows potential of positively affecting their lives.

The application for me forced me to grasp a clear picture of my vision from the fuzzy direction that my prototype has been heading in.The intro video process really helped me arrive at a concrete and concise pitch that doesn't rely on me demo-ing the app on a screen, which is what I usually do.

This is nothing unique to Silicon Valley. A hub of any kind attracts opportunists of all qualities and intentions without discrimination.

These features are only useful for attractive people that other attractive people want to hang out with.

For the longest time, I was shackled to the notion that programming was an art form that required an early age discovery, much like Olympian athletes requiring life-long training to have a chance at competing(usually.) Since I've overcome that mental obstacle, my late discovery serves more to create drive rather than hindrance, but reading comments like that is still very encouraging.

i'd love to have something like that, since most of the time I access different sites and apps, I'm looking for a small amount of specific data, such as the content of my most recent email, my facebook notifications, a date from my google calendar, etc, and frankly don't need all the flashy UI and the redundant clicking to access them. If i can access my email via IM by simply sending "read newest gmail" to a specified SN, my life would be just a little bit easier.

that's a terrible analogy, basically saying that texting/IM are counter-productive, which is often, but not necessarily true.

I read another article(http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/11/01/confirmed-myspace-to-jo...) which illustrates it like an immature high school bully of some sort, which I think is a pretty misleading presentation of facts. Clearly this is a much and long needed initiative that solves the problem that the users have always yearned a solution for, and I think it would be rather selfish,irrational, and/or childish to refuse to cooperate in its endeavor. I, for one, is strongly in support of this initiative and I'm very curious to find out how Google will organize it.

The genuine goal of the project is to simplify the process of mass collaboration. The command-line junkies can use it as a tool to seamlessly extend certain parts of the project out to the public. Artists without any collaboration or development experience, scattered around the globe, can within a minute set up a virtual studio to collaborate on their animation project. It could be used by high school kids to create a digital scrapbook. There are tools available to do all of these things, but I think it is still a lot more difficult than it should be. I've seen many projects with potential vaporize simply because it was a lot of work just to keep all the pieces together.

wow what a giant mess of ignorance and generalizations. I can write an entire article refuting every point he attempted to make.. there are so many Western "innovators" in the artistic field who were "inspired" by Eastern "copycats." Then again, their innovative works were partly influenced by previous artists who were, interestingly enough, Western. Point being, there's no difference in the willingness of one to be innovative, East or West. There are standardized social constraints in any culture but to those with the will to innovate they are irrelevant in making their decision to execute.. results and consequences are a different story. Sorry if this sounded like a rant.. I was just upset by the reality that people with this kind of uneducated views are still abundant. New York City with slanty eyes?? come on
