Is there a relationship between the colors on the graphs? Every graph has different value scale. Hard to compare values between graphs, which is the whole point of the article.

My understanding is this: the genesis for fold (as opposed to foldl) is from the linked talk: http://vimeo.com/6624203.
If fold (a concurrent reduce) is used instead of foldl (a sequential reduce), then the mapping function can be pushed down and applied concurrently to the various elements. A generic mechanism can then be used for dispatching concurrent operations. These functional operation are composed of first mapping (and/or) filtering and then reducing.

Here is a thought: Is there a correlation between bone marrow match and genetic closeness? If there is, it would be a good idea to specifically target people who are from the same community as Amit back in India as well as in the US.
In Indian society, marriage is often within tightly knit communities. What if we track-down people who share second names with Amit's Father and Mother (maiden second name). Would then, the probably of finding a match in such people increase?

My undergrad background is in EE and good amount of research work with compilers in grad school. I am apprehensive about working on low-level software because the state-of-art in commercial OS development in smart-phones always lags a few years behind desktop or high-end systems. The software problems have already been solved by other folks.
Example, Low-level software is poorly designed from a software engineering point of view and its problems plainly evident over multiple hardware product cycles.

The Free Software Foundation defines the traits of Free Software as having 4 freedoms (not rights) and explains them in simple language at http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html.
The freedoms are enforced by the GPL, just like any other EULA. So, trying to question why there are only "4" principles, is missing the point. The GPL itself has several terms and conditions.
So, equating the 4 freedoms to the notion similar to the "religious 10 commandments" and then invoking the argument of "dogma" seems disingenuous.
Yep, based on intuition it would definitely seems like fonts with similar font weights (assuming the same font size), would offer similar legibility. The real question is, given a choice of font and the requirement of printing a novel or HN front-page on a mobile device, how do you quantify the trade-offs between them, so that one can say, this saves 'X' amount of ink or power for the same legibility?
Now, What really needs to be done is to compare "Ink Efficiency" with "Legibility". I wonder if there are other factors which can be used to determine whether one font is "better" than another?
BTW, the ink efficiency is better determined using weighted average of distribution of letter frequency in language use over the alphabet and should be trivially determinable by parsing font files.
Sounds like an a valuable mini exploration project suitable for print media.
[EDIT]. Additionally, for display optimizations you need to maximize "Legibility", "Font Size" at various contrast ratios on screen. It would be interesting to be able to quantify an optimal "Font Face" and "Font Size" for various contrast ratios (screen power consumption) for mobile displays.
I am surprized that more developers are not excited about webos. It frees developers from the App store hindrances. What's really needed is a web app to allow app developers to buy/sell/upgrade app licenses. (If the assumption is that not all app developers are interested in maintaining e-commerce infrastructure)
Also, from a users POV, I found the webos interface to be better than iphone or andriod. IMO, its more than an iterative step in interface design.
