Thanks for summarizing this. It was painful to read so I stopped and was hoping for a tldr in the comments.
Medium is already becoming riddled with linkbait.

Important to note the jpg is just one part of the malware. It is harmless by itself. It still requires some other file to actually execute it. The jpg just contains further instructions for the backdoor. The jpg is really just an obfuscator.
Is this a joke? I honestly can't tell.
Calling a flat url structure "delightfully elegant" has to be a joke right?
$100 for games, XBMC, plex, pre ordered. Will probably get Netflix on there too right? Nice little media center and controller with the bonus of multiplayer games. So worth it.
They got 18% conversion on their clicks from Perfect Audience? Seems dubious.
With such a small sample of data 109 sessions vs 68 sessions... I wouldn't call this a clear winner.
This could actually just be a case of misattribution of sales.
For example, if the customer clicks on a Perfect Audience ad, they could be tagging that customer as "theirs" for the next 30 days, or forever. So imagine someone clicks on this ad, browses the site again, and leaves. Then they come back 5 days later of their own accord and make a purchase. Perfect Audience may be (incorrectly) attributing that sale as their own.
I'd like to see the Ecommerce breakdown that GA is reporting. (this data: http://www.pearanalytics.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/2012...)
Massive overreaction. It's very obvious that these news feed posts are sponsored. It clearly says so. 99% of users won't even notice this or care.
Nice read.
I had a hard time taking Mr Holman's work seriously at first because of his choice of self portraits. They scream "brogrammer" to me.
I'm a convert now, though
We've been on GD since our company (ecomm with revenue in mm) was founded with zero issues.
Now we need to switch to DynDNS asap who say they are getting tons of calls right now
Cool.
My immediate thought when filling out a new listing...
You should auto complete. For anything and everything (that you can.)
I type in Xbox.. a list drops down with xbox 360, complete with Photo, MSRP, estimated value (based on other data points ie craigslist or ebay) and a pre filled out description.
Well, sort of like what ebay does I guess. I hate filling out forms. Everyone else does too.
I'd like to see a better input method other than straight html forms. Personally.
A guided approach ie: Did you stretch? Tap Up arrow for Yes, Down Arrow for No.
Quick keyboard input (or touch on mobile) of one question at a time might be nice. You could also skip questions with another input. Learn what questions the user values most, and show those first.
I really like this idea.. signing up now to see where you take it.
Edit: also pre filled out question templates (I dont want to start with a blank slate)
And also community contributed questions that can be voted on/gauge by popularity so I can add others questions/ideas to my own checklist.
Is this just a simplified Hotmail? It seems like mostly CSS tweaks. No?
They're not sure either.
This is one of those projects that is cool to look at, but is too focused on being "cool" rather than functional. It seems as though more effort was put into type and layout than improving the actual driving experience.
"Get a great looking, reponsive website with zero effort." typo found
You probably got down voted because you seem like a dick, rather than a helpful, nice, encouraging person.
This is like starting a big coding project without first writing a plan.
It's best to prototype first be it on paper or photoshop.
Otherwise your design is shaped by programming requirements, rather than a fully thought out plan/experience.
Yup. It took us several months to get our page rank back. We did everything "by the book" too.
Also: did you request a change of address in Webmaster tools? You have to control both domains, and request a "Change of Address" from old to new.
Needs more lens flare. And some bevels. Then we're back in 1998.
Either they're doing it wrong. (likely)
Or their customer is difficult to target on FB.
We (a quickly growing clothing company) see an amazing ROI from FB ads. We also have around 350k Likes. We advertise to friends of friends, and target similar companies, fashion companies etc.
I am betting they simply haven't found the best tactic.
