Putting this out here in case if anyone finds it useful - I like a lot of good ideas from Contracts.rb such as the type signature looking more expressive (personal taste - looks Haskell/Elm ish) and support of Maybe's. Granted it's not static but def some good ideas to steal from.

I started a major rewrite for a Rails App that I'm converting to Rails API + Ember with Ember Data. Yeah, the learning curve has been huge and Ember Data pretty much didn't help things. But, I've stuck with it and everytime I struggle with something (happened first with routing nested resources - still feels a bit magic sometimes), I take a step back and look at the Ember way of doing things and I usually become enlightened with the very well thought out decisions.

For those of you struggling with Ember Data - this is your best friend - https://github.com/emberjs/data/blob/master/TRANSITION.md probably the best documentation on the matter. If you got Active Model Serializers, use the right serializer on Ember data side to get going.

IF you're using Ember Rails - be sure to check that it's pulling the latest Ember Data.

I like that there are more tutorials and demos coming out but seriously, we need some more non-trivial UI examples. Maybe after my project I'll write up a blog post if anyone here is interested.

ah yes, you're right - meant to say that handle the serialize/de-serialize yourself at first to get your feet wet.

Ember Data is a heavy hard-hat area and no wonder you were frustrated. Really, just start with your own data layer and get used to Ember first. Ember has a very Rails-ish philosophy and just like in the Rails world - magic happens (but ya should know how it happens anyways). This blog post is a good intro to how Ember works - http://trek.github.com/ (though routing has come a long way since - http://emberjs.com/guides/routing/defining-your-routes/

+1 - I've been following the Ember progress and have been blown away with the progress made last year. It's the most mature UI friendly framework for frontend out there. Fwiw, this (slightly outdated router code but a good philosophical intro) post is super useful for diving into Ember - http://trek.github.com/

it wouldn't matter as much. if your primary app and workers via Heroku is down (which presumably are the ones using the add-ons) none of the end users are going to notice the add-ons being down.

Here's an under rated reason - a night owl's schedule! Tech startup founders and early teams get most of their shit done at night when there are fewer or no distractions. When you're on this schedule, the city life is much more accommodating in terms of food, socialization, etc. Then suddenly, dinner time is suddenly like lunch time.

Meant the lacking in answers for API docs in general. Especially facebook in the past; though Graph Explorer is much nicer!

It'd be nice to be able fork or even comment the API docs as a developer using the API. Tooo many times I googled for an answer that the API docs neglect and found the answer instead on StackOverflow. If I had a facebook credit for every time I found the answer I was looking for with facebook's API docs, I'd be pretty poor :-p

Balanced Payments (https://balancedpayments.com/) is pretty awesome! They saved us when PayPal shut us down! They do everything you need.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Did you really expect the former President of fb (and Co-founder of Causes - also, fb login) to have a non-fb signup flow :-p ?

This is exactly what I was looking for over the weekend - thank you!!

After we got hosed by Paypal, I was crying over alternative solutions for creating an escrow solution for our marketplace. These guys saved us a lot of headaches dealing with escrow and helped us get setup at 2 A.M! I was a bit disappointed when the entire setup from registration to implementation to getting paid only took 15 minutes (translation: I was absurdly happy it was working so quickly). I spent the rest of the night removing my ugly ole paypal implementation.

That and their client libraries make it stupidly easy to get setup! Highly recommend it for marketplace startups!
