At my last job for a "casual dating" app, all new account verification stuff was sent to some shop in the Philippines. I got involved with troubleshooting some random DB locks that were causing down time. Ended up discovering that this firm tried to automate the verification process with some scripts or something that would sometimes go haywire and send over 100 requests per second to the new account admin portal which would bring down the entire site. Management just asked them nicely to be more careful which brought the peaks down to 80 requests per second which the back end seemed to be able to cope with (just barely). They couldn't careless that there were supposed to be humans looking at this data and they were clearly trying to automate that part out. Even worse, once I started looking at the data that was in the portal, it was credit card name and billing addresses, and DL license or passport scans. Before I could really further fix the performance issue, I was laid off. Then a few months later they did another lay off which cleaned out every american employee. This was an american company that had ~150 american employees and now there are none. Just two execs at the top that get to watch the money roll in while they farm out everything to overseas. Really pisses me off bad >:(

Perhaps I'm getting jaded (or wiser) in my old age, but anytime I see "mandate", I just picture congress people shoveling truck loads of money into a company's stock. So if this is mandated, what stock should I buy? (I'm serious).

Everyone is built different, I think I would have done good in a similar situation. I'm already an introvert, but having kids, a wife and bills to pay sometimes just gets overwhelming. I have a friend that has been in and out of jail for the last 10 years or so. We talk a few times a year (at my expense) and I hate to admit I sometimes get jealous. Every time he gets out, he goes right back to his old self: smoking, drugging, and missing parole meetings until finally a warrant is issued. I would think I would emerge from a jail cell full of newly gained wisdom. I'd reenter the world a master plumber, HVAC tech, CPA, and maybe even psychologist. Heck might even have some wonderful startup ideas. But in the current grind of things, I feel I have no room for self improvement or learning.

I find it funny how middle class people all talk about how it is too expensive to have kids. Meanwhile, a single mother in poverty with 4+ kids is a regular sight depending on what side of town you are on. Yet, "I'm too poor to have kids" is not a phrase you'd ever hear from such a person.

I don't think "poverty level" is the correct term here. I believe once below the poverty level, everything is basically free (if you have kids to claim at least). Free rent, school, food, healthcare, etc. But there are many other "levels".

I know for a fact that 5 years ago in small town Texas you got food stamps and extremely reduced healthcare costs if your yearly take home pay was less than $40k and you had two children. I know because my brother-in-law's wife would give us all the free junk she'd get from the SNAP program that she didn't want. Sugary juice, snacks, etc. We'd throw it straight in the trash. She tried breast feeding but gave up in an hour because she got free baby formula and she could then dump her kids on anyone to babysit without a need to worry about feeding the infant. Once her two boys were 3 and 4 years of age, she qualified to put them on a bus at 7am (they were still in diapers) to be taken to a preschool that was restricted to low income families only. She would then spend the next 8 hours sitting at home and trolling my wife on facebook. My wife only posts pictures, to which this woman would then critique in the most Karen way possible. "Your kids are too small for that car seat", "That car seat should be rear facing", "That doesn't look safe", etc. If we called her out on anything, she'd get mad and spend hours digging through our old photo albums to put the red angry face on whatever she deemed necessary. Felt extremely invasive. Absolute crazy lady. We put up with that for nearly two years before blocking her. Which then made family meetings awkward so we quit going to those as well. Which that just turned us into the "stuck up" "snooty" rebels of the family. But oh well, we are much happier now. No clue why I just typed all this, but what ever.

That sounds really terrible. I honestly thought that Tesla FSD was better than that. It just reminds me of my opinions I had (and still have) like 15+ years ago when I'd get into discussions on random forums about self driving cars. I mean sure, perhaps 100 years down the road when everything driving is required to be in a fully autonomous mode with interlinked wireless communication, maybe perhaps that would work.

But that is not what we have right now. Right now every driver on the road is exposed to a potential instant tragedy that is unavoidable. I mean, what is a self driving car going to do if a large semi drops a huge log or freight right in front of you? You have one second to impact. You can either attempt to hold your line and drive over the object, potentially killing/injuring the passengers. Or you can swerve left into oncoming traffic. Or you can swerve right into a busy two way frontage road.

No matter which choice is taken, I guarantee there will be a lawsuit. Perhaps one way forward would be perhaps something similar to what medical companies did in the 1980's with the creation of the "vaccine courts". Maybe we need some kind of new "autonomous driving" court which would be staffed with experts who would then decide what kind of cases have merit. That would at least better shield the parent companies and allow them to continue innovating instead of worrying about potential litigation.

Am I reading this right? They basically are trying to measure sleep quality and whether or not they have depression based on some random questions? Sleep quality and depression are no where near my concerns. My wife (who gives piano lessons) recently had a student (13yo girl) that for over a year was sending naked photos of herself to an account on instagram that was supposed to be the secret "true fans only" account of Justin Bieber (or some other popular singer). Can't remember how her parents found out, but they took her to the police department to let them handle it (they did nothing). My wife told her she should be more careful. Her only response was "Yea.. but what if it was really Justin?".

And btw, kiwifarms had to get their own ip block because no one would host them any more that was like 5+ years ago or something. So cloudflare never really provided any service to the site as their IPs were public knowledge and could be ddos'd (hence why it is always going down)

I've thought this for the last 10+ years or so. I even tried to not buy anything that was "made in china" for many years. I'm so amazed that people were fine with the recent higher gas prices because it would be helping the war in Ukraine. But yet no one wants to end trade with china because it would rise the costs of goods. Just 40 years ago there was literally nothing coming from china. They flood our markets with cheap crap that is made by burning coal, nobody cares that the end product breaks in mere days or weeks because you can just "buy another one". They've ruined the entire aftermarket parts industry for cars as almost every replacement part you buy at autozone is a chinese knockoff that will leave you stranded on the side of the road (my family runs an auto shop, the parts reliability issues are insane while autozone stock goes to the moon).

And then the main issue is all this cheapness is possible because workers are paid pennies a day and take meth so they can work 15 hour days doing tedious hand assembly because the person labor is cheaper than using a machine to automate. And now our media is flooded with news bites about how oppressive and racist america is while china gets away with literal slavery and everyone there believes all non-chinese are inferior.

Screw these people and their government.

There will be no reflection of "Donald Trump's legacy" that is positive for the left. I do not watch CNN or fox news, or get my "news" from twitter. For the last 5 years, I've mostly kept in touch with reality through youtube. There were tons of independent journalists that I followed. Some that were covering the election had paid subscriptions to pollster data and software. They could drill down into county level and precinct level data and it was shocking to see vote totals that exceeded the population of the entire precinct! You could go back historically and see every election 2016,2012, etc and see the turnout rates were always 50-70%. It was these precincts that flipped the entire state from red to blue. I thought surely this would be going into audit and court territory and did not bother to save the data or videos as I figured "all would come into the light".

Then youtube banned all these channels. They were not even republican! They were banned for comparing voter turn out numbers with data they paid money to access! Fast forward to this last week. I'm watching another youtube journalist interviewing people at the Jan 6th protest. She was mostly talking with older people, asking what made them show up, etc. There was music, food, and people just generally hanging out. I go back to work for the rest of the day and ignored the news cycle only to get a notification of her posting another video later in the evening about how she just found out about the siege on the capitol. She was there and knew nothing about until getting back to the hotel! And then the entire left wing media labels the event as terrorists and white supremacists. Her next video the next day was about her now being on a no fly list and couldn't get on a plane. Now her entire channel is deleted and I have no idea what happened to her! All this for interviewing grandmas at a protest!

My entire way of getting news for the last 5 years is now non-existent. And you tell me that I am supposed to "reflect" on this? That somehow because I don't drink everything that CNN makes up means I need to be removed from society? That I should only get my news from one "official" source?

I try to engage with people on the left, and it's always "show me the proof!". I had great proof, and numbers, but the left removed it all and now I have nothing and am told the BLM protests were so much more honorable than the capitol protest when all of the videos on youtube of people organizing through facebook and telegram groups with slogans of "good cops are dead cops" are now also deleted and people act like the protests never happened. We do not have a state run media in america, but it is clear that we have a media run state and every one on the left is the very definition of 'Koristne Budale'. All the way to the point of voting for a man who the KKK applauded in the 60's for his pro segregation policies. Now he is somehow the face of "anti racism" and "defund the police" when in the 90's he pushed for the death penalty for repeat drug offenders.

Why don't you try a thought process? How would you feel if it was herds of trump supporters marching through cities lighting everything on fire for 6 months while everyone talked about how peaceful they where? So you think, "We'll show them come Nov 4th". And on Nov 4th, Biden takes an immediate lead only to loose in the middle of the night because Trump's "mail in ballots just arrived" and there's no need to check signatures. And then it bounces around the courts for nearly two months, none of them speaking on the matter at hand, but instead claiming that somehow it is not the court's problem to solve. So you attend a protest at the capitol only to be labeled as a terrorist because some really fringe people were all the media focused on. You'd be absolutely loosing your mind. If you think it feels bad being on the left, trying being on the right!

Oh and Trump is not my leader. It took him two weeks before he started talking about the numbers I had on the 5th. He in many cases this year has been late to the game. Our only hope is extreme voter reform, but the democrats love a loose ballot. They do not orchestrate fraud, they only make sure the pool stays too muddy to clean.

We are about to have 80 million americans that will never see Biden or the DNC as legit. It will be like fighting over Jefferson Davis all over again.

Oh and Biden won less counties than Hillary, which was already low for her (hence her loss). Biden under performed in every state except for 5 key swing states and even then it was only a "win" because a never before seen amount of mail in ballots were used. Perhaps they were fake, or perhaps people that would never set foot in a voting place were fine with circling "biden" on a mail in ballot and dropping it back in the mail box. Still against state law either way.

Oh and very few ballots were contested due to signature mismatches. Funny because Obama won his senate seat in the 90's by having a team canvas all of his competitors primary ballots and had them whittled down until he was the only one running for the office that year.

The immune system is still not well understood. Vaccinations have certainly changed the course in a few ways. More specifically, a toxin produced by the bacteria. Those that have been vaccinated are immune to the toxin, not necessarily the bacteria. So prior to 1950, most people that got whooping cough were around the age of 5. Now the only ones that get whooping cough are infants or the elderly.

Two: No one is really questioning the machines not "working right". It is clear that there is no validation with the mail in ballots. MIB's are some of the most rejected ballots there are, yet no one seems to have any stats on this, or the stats provided are very low. Then you factor in tons of twitter and facebook posts of women saying that they were sent two ballots, one for their maiden name and one for their current name, at both their current address and their old addresses. Never mind that it is state law in most of these places that a ballot has to be "solicited" and cannot just be mailed en mass via mail. Put another way, you can't just mail 5 million ballots out to just 1 million physical addresses. I would not be surprised if during a recount, 50% of these MIBs are rejected.

Three: elections are quite predictable. There are 100's of counties that for the last 40 years have always predicted the outcome. If this county is blue, then blue is our president, etc. This seems to still be the case this time around, except for the states in question.

I don't think that is the full truth. Everyone in the industry seems to see goodrx as dishonest and they all state the same story similar to this recent one from reddit[0].

In my personal experience, the goodrx "coupon" for my drug was $30. Sure enough, at the pharmacy, I was charged $30. But if I use the same coupon the next month, the price is magically $57. I could print out a new coupon every time, but the process with the pharm tech to change to a different "drug card" (which is what they see it as) is nearly a 5 minute process. By contrast, my state offers their own group drug card, and the charge is usually around $45. It might go up or down by a few dollars every 6 months, but that is it.

I totally agree! For months media has encouraged large group gatherings in the form of protests and riots and now they tell us to not "gather" to vote but instead mail it in. It's crazy!
