Apparently a system upgrade allowed five individuals to withdraw non-existent money from their own accounts to other accounts. They did this repeatedly over a few days, amounting in about 400 million ISK, or over 3 million USD.
I'm from Iceland, so a latitude of about 64.15 or so. The extremities of the graphs kind of describe how the mood of the people swings up and down all year round. In the middle of summer, around the summer solstice, people are bordering on mania, enjoying endless daylight and trying to get the most out of each day. As winter solstice approaches, everything becomes more subdued, a bit depressed even. It's often a bit difficult to live with, especially during the shortest winter days, but the summers are so incredibly amazing that it feels like it's all worth it.
In Iceland, the president is chosen by simple majority of votes. The sitting president got about 39% of the vote. There were 9 candidates. Of course, this problem is usually brushed off saying that this is a largely powerless office, the prime minister and his cabinet hold the executive power.
+1 for chart.js - use it for most charting needs and even created a Wagtail app[1] that uses Chart.js on the frontend to render charts based on user input.

The fissure length at its maximum is thought to be around 4km in length, about 2.5 miles. The output has diminshed and the webcam is zoomed in on the most active part right now, which is probably not more than a few hundred meters.

I live in Reykjavik, west side and close to the ocean. From the coast line there it is about 35km or 22 miles direct line of sight to the eruption site. I went out about 1 hour and 15 minutes after the eruption started and saw the lava flow about 100-150m in the air with my bare eyes. I've seen a few eruptions but they are always mesmerizing!

I think you are misinterpreting this photo. Nobody has been paving over the fissures in the town. I think it's a combination of moisture, different coloured asphalt sections, and light/shadows that tricks the eye. As you can see in this drone footage [1] the car park asphalt is darker, and the hot water pipes ruptured in the ground create steam that spreads moisture over the asphalt, making it darker. Also, you have a building next to the car park which makes it even darker than the street.

It's not that simple. The political parties mostly support changes in this direction. Surely 33% of the population is not going to have the same views on the economy, taxes, welfare systems etc. even though they agree on this topic.
Furthermore, Iceland has held the 1st position on the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap report for 14 consecutive years [1], so it's not like things are really bad compared to the rest of the world.
This strike is primarily to draw attention to the fact that the rate of change has stalled, and that needs to change.

Some years ago, my team created a web-based portal for a local ad agency. Long-running actions that triggered ajax calls would display this hideous, too large, black spinning wheel. Probably there was a bug that caused the spinning wheel to sometimes remain on the screen until you refreshed.
At one point a user contacted us and asked how long the "black sun" as she called it was supposed to be there? We shrugged our shoulders and thought, "maybe a few seconds?". She said she had been working in the app, navigating and clicking right under the spinning wheel, for two whole days before contacting us!
Reminds me of approach lighting at Reykjavik airport in Iceland. Although not quite as dramatic as Adelaide since it's not in a residential area, it goes right through a very busy road intersection:

I actually run a guitar chord website, www.guitarparty.com, that provides chords for songs, but also some additional functionality such as PDF books, transposing songs etc for subscribers. But the content is free although you have to tolerate a few Google ads. We're mostly local to Iceland but there are always some users and subscribers from around the world.
We once attempted to go the legal route globally and make a deal with Harry Fox Agency (the agency that took down OLGA), we had a contract ready but it would have been quite expensive and risky for us. That being said, we pay royalties to our local copyright agency based on usage.

This is insane. I live in Iceland. I recently fell off my bike, got a bad cut on my forearm and needed stitches and extensive cleaning of the wound. I visited my local clinic where a nurse cleaned the wound and a doctor applied 5 stitches. The whole process took about 90 minutes with wait. For this visit I paid 500 Icelandic Kronas, about $3.75. Afterwards the wound got infected which required another $3.75 visit and antibiotics treatment costing about 10.000 ISK,rougly $75.
But only the first and then every fourth :)

Yes well separation of frontend/backend is of course a good idea, but most of the projects are mostly django templates with some React sprinkled on top to make interaction and interfaces nicer. It's also a good idea if you have just a single project or a few of them.
I'm talking about maybe 30-40 projects with django as base so it would make my job so much more complicated if I would split them all up in repos.
The frontend code is mostly isolated but is shipped in the same repo to be built and distributed for django to find.
So your answer about a custom dockerfile is probably what would be needed.
This is very interesting to me. I'm essentially a one man devOps team at a small web agency hosting multiple client websites mostly based on Django.
One question; what do you do about compiling and transpiling Javascript? Right now it's done via webpack in the local environment and then pushed out to S3/CDN.
I tried running this on a Mac but got an error. Assumed it was because of some sed version difference. Perhaps the code on Github is just broken.

My experience with SendGrid is not very good. Slow delivery, random halts on e-mails due to low activity on account, which I was not notified about, the list goes on. They did update their UI recently which was a good step, but the other issues remain.

As far as I can tell, the cost of the SSL endpoint on Heroku is almost exactly the same as the cost of a separate Elastic Load balancer, which you need to terminate the SSL connection before it reaches your app. So Heroku is really just selling this feature at cost.
