However I'd still bet that OpenAI is gonna be hit with a multi-billion dollar fine from the EU within 5 years of rolling out this feature. And they will pay and move along. Just how big tech works these days.
My main grievances with the Signal app are mainly centered around UI and UX, and features. Without trying to be mean, I think it's plain ugly and clunky. Features like live location or persistent multi-device messages etc will probably never be implemented with the current strategy of Signal.
The fact that this "improved" version does not show a single screenshot of the UI on their own website, signals to me (pun intended) that this app will address none of my wishes.
Both Nokia (Finland) and Ericsson (Sweden) are great european alternatives. There is no need to reinvent the wheel in every EU country.
Funny how a completely ordinary and incredibly useful vehicle ends up with such a skewed image in the US.
In Europe, a Ford Transit is just what the local plumber or electrician drives. It's a no-nonsense work tool. In America, thanks to what I assume is decades of media tropes, the same van is portrayed as the getaway car in a heist or the “creepy unmarked van” parents warn their kids about.

I would much rather see a viable alternative to Google Docs with at least an attempt at feature parity.
I have yet to see a solution that has a chance at comparison, especially considering performance and features.
I wish journals would start accepting Typst[0] files. It is definitely the format of the next decade in my opinion. It's both open source and highly performant.
Sadly existing legacy structures prevent it from gaining the critical mass needed for it to thrive just yet.

How come? Ever since controllers used Bluetooth they would need to use some sort of programmable microcontroller or cpu. Both of these things need to 'boot' at some point. And yes even microcontrollers have bootloaders.
Operators of vehicles like boats or airplanes are much more likely to try and save the vehicle with all means necessary. This is probably due to a number of reasons but there is a somewhat increased attachment.

Is this a troll comment? Yes, wasm works based on a compiled binary, just like any other program written in a compiled language in the past 50 years. You try to suggest that everyday users of the web are just going into the js sources of webpages and understand whats going on. With the plethora of libraries, frameworks and static optimization used in todays websites, normal people can't really dissect the inner workings of a website just by looking at the code. That's why we have tools like request analyzers etc which all would still work with compiled libraries.
Compiled code has existed for half a century and we know how to work with it.
Suggesting that the web is doomed because people of the future prefer rust instead of javascript is beyond any rationale.
Detached housing increases mean distance between households. This increase leads to increased need for longer roads more infrastructure etc. This is the obvious. What is not obvious is the social impact of this.
As a kid I was able to walk and bike into school. The independence was great and I had lots of adventures on the way home with my friends on the way back from school. Only when we moved to a single family home further away from school I had to rely on the bus that only came once an hour and even more infrequent when its later in the afternoon, I saw my friends less.
This just a stupid anecdote of mine but I do see the pattern: people that live further away, see each other less and do less together. I can walk 5 min to the subway station and be at the front door of any circa 1.5m people in my city within 30 minutes. Not possible with detached housing. Subways only make sense in somewhat denser environments.
This all before talking about energy efficiency. Since I have other tenants left and right of me, I basically don't didn't even need to turn the heating on that much last winter.
Also I can walk to the corner of the city block and get fresh and warm bread from my favorite bakery. It's also right opposite of a very good pizza place. Not possible in suburbia.
If I wanna see some green and meet friends to play volleyball or a picnic I go to the public park instead of my private garden. The park is maintained by professional landscapers and gardeners, I wouldn't even have the time to care about my own garden.
I would suffer horribly in detached home suburbia and also have a far larger environmental footprint, so why do it?
Are there ways to do this while whitelisting sites where you want to retain and keep login tokens?
I think in such a legislation it has to be clearly defined what a "search result" is I'd be surprised if the legislation would count the timer widget as such.

Clarification due to a somewhat confusing title:
This is about the merchant using an iPhone to accept credit cards and other Tap to Pay devices.
The customer was able to pay with Tap to Pay with their iPhone for a while now.
I remember throwing plastic bottles off a river bridge with my class in 3rd grade. While it's true that the river connected to an ocean some 400km downstream, I doubt they made it further than the next best river bank.
I sincerely hope that since then schools have stopped encouraging children to throw plastic in waterways like this.
I'm not sure if that has ever been a thing in the US but here in Germany you can drop off 35mm film at most drug stores for less than 5€. They even give you a 9×13cm printout.
This has been a thing for a long time, I remember going with my mom to the drugstore after a holiday to develop a bunch of them. I bet they've thought of axing this for cost saving in the past but are now more than happy that they didn't do so with the resurgence of film photography over the past years.

The entire point of the EU is to form consensus for the betterment of Europe. Different opinions are important but create friction. Agreement, yes sometimes against ones own opinion, is necessary to strengthen the EU. Individuals in an alliance that regularly strive against agreements and consensus are hurting the alliance, hurting Europe.
If consensus is apparently not desired we can go back to the European patchwork where the rules change significantly every 100km and doing trade is 10x harder.
While I agree that "the vast majority of content is pure garbage", I have to make an argument that a non-negligible portion of the site delivers high-quality educational videos with excellent research. The curiosity-seeking part of my brain is subject to being very easy to get hooked on this.

What I learned from other people who have success in their side projects is to choose a workplace that allows you to do a sub 40 hour work week. Of course you would have to live a tad more simply than your standard upper-middle class software guy.
The Kim Dotcom case proves that some courts will ignore nation borders altogether.
A closer analogy would be to only support static images instead of animations and to only support cartesian pixel grids with only 2 dimensions.
