I think I've commented before on this but I've had great success using VSCode Remote Containers. Essentially using the M1 as a frontend to an x86 environment.

Works great and I can move between a local and cloud servers depending on requirements

I get this on my M1 Air, maybe once or twice a week.

I use a Magic trackpad, and when it occurs the built-in trackpad still works fine.

To fix it I disable Bluetooth on the M1, then re-enable and everything is fine again.

This lead me to believe it was related to the Bluetooth stack, but if people are experiencing it while using built-in trackpad if be interested to know if my workaround still fixes it.

We did both, customer got an iso image with a single line install command. The installer would automatically download all the docker containers and lock the system down.

Since this was the customer’s initial impression (and we wanted the IT gatekeepers to be happy), we strove to get installation as close to turn-key as possible

It's funny you mention WAF because that's exactly what kept me away from 1password.

I loved almost everything about 1P but their reluctance to authenticate with keychain means it's a PITA for me, and an absolute deal breaker for my wife.

And the way you're doing it sounds like you avoid the docker mount slowdown issue. Sounds like quite a good solution

Yeah I dusted off an old licence I had for resilio sync and use that to sync with my local machine.

You can get around this by running git clone inside your container as part of the startup process. But 1. It can add quite a delay to starting a container depending on the size of your codebase, and 2. Not all of my code is necessarily committed and pushed.

For me, syncing works well but I can see how it would not suit every use case

I've been considering writing one myself, admittedly it's not an easy road at first, and a step by step guide would've helped a lot.

To help with the noise try replacing the fans with high quality ones. I threw some nocturnas into an old managed dell switch and it quieted down immensely.

Just be aware that sometimes they change the pins around from the standard pinout, I blew out one of the fans before discovering this. Fan still works, just lost the rpm monitoring :(
