The price point is super painful. 2k would have been bad enough but I would have considered it. It’s a no go at $3,300 for me.

There are pretty good terminal alternatives to gitlens - lazygit being the one I go to. I like it far more that gitlens.

Jupyter is harder, I haven't found anything that gets me there yet.

Fidelity does as well, although the message switches to state only read the code if you've called them directly.

Does Helix fit that bill for you? It's fast, modal and very little config required.

I think there's also a fork if you can't let go of the VIM bindings.

When you’re just running out the door with your kids it’s hard to pick up the full frame behemoth.

Check out helix for a good example of this too. Not quite as visible, but entering certain modes gives you a list of available shortcuts you can use from there.

Space for example opens a list with ten or twenty commands that remind you how to open the file picker, open editor list, problems window, etc…

As someone that used to agree with you, I’ve come to admit there are benefits.

Information density and shortcut availability are two of the big ones.

But the biggest for me is composability. I can query any data using their cli and open it in visidata nearly instantly. Just pipe it in. The interface is awesome compared to other query viewers I’ve found. It makes it easier to drill in and see results. Quick pivoting, Filtering and more

I would if you want to use it as backup. But if you just use it to display photos and have another process for sync it’s absolutely fantastic!

Not right now. I believe there was an article recently saying custom browser may soon be allowed on iOS, but nothing right now.

Completely agree, but I’ll through in two more reasons.

Debug ability. It’s so helpful being able to isolate the network layer and treat each layer independently.

State ownership. It’s nice to know that this is client side state, or this server side state. RSC obscures this.

But I have known addicts, they don’t exactly take care of their things. It’s very easy to imagine that much of the state supplied housing would quickly become unsafe and or destroyed.

Just today I realized how distracting too many hyperlinks can be. And Wikipedia is full of them! It feels so much easier to read an article without them. Now I just wish Wikipedia had more supporting graphics to help engage readers in a more productive manner.

Last time I tried Plex for photos it was pretty terrible.

Clearly not their focus. I still use it for audiobooks and live tv, but I migrated photos to photoprism which is great.

Also check out photo structure. The author posts here sometimes. Both are great apps.

This is something I’m facing now. Even hundreds of files slow things down. Code splitting is the answer, but that adds some other complexity that we may not want.

Heads up… Your scaling seems broken in iOS. There’s a scrollbar but some of the content is still cut off.

I wont dispute the benefits to vertical integration, but I still think there is benefit into keeping things modular as well. I've been working on an application for the past five years that's stayed afloat partially because keeping things small and not becoming over reliant on any one library.

Regarding the link, I most likely wouldn't consider routing and bundling to be in that list. Sever integration currently doesn't apply to me, since our app is one of the cases where CSR makes more sense.

All of the “tanstack” components seems to be going this route which I’m really excited about. I tend to really like that stack and roll most other things myself.

Should make it easier to switch frameworks in the future if the need arises.

Only two minor complaints are there’s no “On this day” function, and the instructions to view full resolution photos are a bit confusing. Otherwise i like it better than anything else.

Honestly, you probably don’t even need a vintage lens. If you look for a deal the Panasonic 100-300mm lens if fairly affordable and very stable with sync is.

Curious, why not just used IntelliJ with the plugins for python?

I’ve never used the standalone apps. Do they provide a better experience?

I feel like that has changed over the past few years. Many restaurants in my area started using them for menus, and I recently saw them used to setup wifi while on vacation.

I think most of the hobbyists have stuck with DSLR/mirrorless, but I knew a lot of people that used a dslr for family / vacation pictures. Those people all use phones now.

Although We’re probably saying the same thing, just differing on our definition of hobbyist.

You don't feel like targeting works? I feel like I'm a moderately careful person (who hates ads), I use stricter browser settings and ublock origin, but I still get somewhat targeted ads when I do see them. My wife, who isn't as careful, frequently gets very targeted ads. Friends and family often remark that the phone seems to be listening with how targeted the ads are. Exposing your brand to those who are interested is very powerful.
