I’ve been unemployed a long time and have been thinking of improving at networking. These are what I came up with.

Have you considered Raycast? I don’t use it for those features myself, but it is extensible and has a large community, so even if it can’t do those things by default, I’m sure you could configure it to.

From my own searching, blue collar jobs are hiring in the same way tech jobs are hiring: they’re happy to hire experienced folks, but not to train. It’s likely this isn’t the case elsewhere of course, but I am struggling with it.

I was laid off some time ago and made an earnest effort to break into the trades. I have some experience in framing and general handiwork, but it is extremely difficult to find an apprenticeship/get on a track to certification. I’ve heard unions are extremely selective to ensure their current union members can find consistent work.

As with most things, getting into it seems to be primarily about knowing someone to get you in.

I’d love to hear more ideas/advice on finding alternative employment if anyone has any. I’m worried I won’t be able to find a normal job again.

Love the logo, very smart. I wonder if this would be useful for people with hand-coded websites to easily provide an RSS feed. Right now I'm actually maintaining one manually, so I might look into setting this up.

Social media is relied on by a lot of people for official notifications. When I was in high school, my only use for Twitter was checking if my school was closed or not on snow days. I'm sure there are lots of valid reasons for schools, hospitals, emergency services, garbage collection, official media networks etc. to have social media accounts, and for regular people to follow them.

I've always thought it would be a good idea for governments to run their own mastodon servers for this, but something else with accounts (not publicly) tied to real identities could be interesting.

Your app looks great, I love when apps make good use of iCloud syncing.

If you don't mind me asking, what's your plan for monetization? I'm considering moving over from Raindrop.io, but am a bit worried about basic features ending up behind a subscription.

Is the key feature here just the voice control? I’m wondering what you feel is missing from other popular recipe websites/trackers, and why I would choose to use this over something with more care put into it.

Or, was this mostly just an exercise in engineering/testing AI?

n-o-d-e has what he calls a data runner mod which includes simply swapping the stock green light with a brighter white one. I’ve had one for years now, and its still not ideal, but definitely better than the original:

The Guru Granth Sahib Ji (GGSJ) has also been memorized by some people. It’s much rarer than in Islam, but the GGSJ being written in verse with defined melodies/meter helps with memorization. It is much longer than the Quran though, and there isn’t as much emphasis on memorizing the whole thing (the daily prayers are commonly known though).

That seems possible, but that might just have to do with the state of the culture before TikTok anyways. Maybe the doom and gloom among young people in North America is because of other factors and content relating to it just happens to get more popular. China might have a more positive population right now, that makes and supports more positive content.

I am from North America actually, I’m curious where your association with it comes from. I just spend a lot of time on youtube/listening to hip hop so have heard Nardwuar do it many times. I’m vaguely familiar with it otherwise too, but wouldn’t be able to place it anywhere.

Wow, so this is the where Nardwuar's "Doot doola doot do..." comes from! I always wondered how it was so ubiquitous that even people unfamiliar with his interviews knew how to respond. Very interesting.

I’m in gen z and usually type in all lowercase on my phone because I have autocorrect turned off and capitalizing the letters would be more work. Generally though, the aesthetic has become more associated with girls, I suspect because of women popular among girls being early to/pioneering the trend (namely Emma Chamberlain’s all lowercase youtube video titles and Rupi Kaur’s poetry books being entirely lowercase)

Are there any countries with good, reasonable tax systems? I'm only familiar with Canada and the USA, both of which are a bit of a mess, though seemingly in different ways. I'd be very interested in hearing what the process is like in other places.

Is this bad for Google too? I thought Chrome needs Firefox to be somewhat successful so competition exists and the browser space doesn’t become a monopoly. Does the rising popularity of Safari and Edge negate this?

Really interesting concept but I see a number of issues and limitations not addressed in the review.

For one, I think a lack of segmentation isn't great. Following people isn't just for quality content, it's for certain kinds of content. That's part of what makes a platform like TikTok so engaging: it finds content in the niches you're interested in for you. No need to look for them and follow the right creators. If everything is shared in one feed, niche content is less likely to be given to and seen.

Also, creators in this format are discouraged from giving their points, as their feed post will rank down quicker.

I do like the sentiment though. I really wish a simple, open source Twitter like social network was popular. It was a convenient way to see official communication from organizations and significant individuals, and to see news happen basically live, but the platform is inherently flawed. I wonder if a paid social network could ever take off. I would be happy to give a few bucks a month to a Twitter like app if it had a substantial enough network, but that's a bit of a catch 22.

Confer with the team around me to ensure I make an informed decision. Hopefully they do the same. Maybe the CEO has the final say, but they don't make decisions on their own. I'm sure there's tons of research behind those decisions that was not collected by the CEO on their own.

I think just changing "California" to "Bay Area" would be reasonable for now. If the article is correct, zoning is being completely eradicated, but I'm not sure why the poster decided to say it was for all of California.

It isn’t, it’s a feature to keep the website relevant for a longer time. I’d be really happy to see this one break the mold, considering the rest of the development seems really reasonable and user-friendly.

Ah, think I misunderstood you originally. Anecdotally, it took me a couple tries and some thought, and I felt quite satisfied when I figured it out!

I also find it takes me a few tries on puzzles like this to see if I really like them, so hopefully if you try some harder ones in the future you’ll enjoy it more.

This is partially the point of the recent wave of daily games spurred by wordle. You can only play today’s puzzle, so you’ll have to return to the site every day to try new ones.

In fact I don’t think I’ve seen any that allow you to play past day’s puzzles.
