After 4 years of working to build a big VC fundable startups (3 different products), I was pretty burnt out. I am continuing the last product, but now my focus is on building lifestyle startups which brings about $1m revenue every year.

Joined a job on the side, which would help pay my bills and help my family settle down. In the meanwhile, I would be chipping along to build my small revenue generating startup.

Ideal candidate should have been playing a role of Tech Architect (consumer based application) and hands-on.

More than a physical keyboard, a keyboard designed for mobile users excites me more.

Many people use one hand to type on the mobile phone (thumb to be more exact). However, the design of the keyboard on the mobile screen does not align well with the natural movement of the thumb. It is painful and hideous.

I believe an Arc keyboard on the mobile screen would be the best design. Anyone working on something similar?

HipChat is an absolute beauty ... We can not survive with out Hipchat and Asana ...

This is a nice idea. We had tried this once in Bangalore, however, there was two major challenges.

1. Not enough people asking great questions. 2. The answers to questions was only vocal, with no presentation or material to back it up.

The first was easily solved by seeding a few question in the public to get things moving. However the number 2 was a major problem. Many people were not able to connect to the answers/discussions.

I would love to know if you are able to solve the 2nd problem.

Thought I would share my experience.

This might possibly be the best thing to happen to you.

A good time to think over, prioritize launch over features, etv. 8 months is too long to take for a mvp. What you are building is most certainly not a mvp.

I have gone through similar stage, but it has only made me wiser.

I finished my grad school and then job for 7.5 years. I quit job to startup. Also joined MBA.

Dropped off from the b-school after 2 semester. Found it too boring and too generic. Coursera is much better.

Community moderation is quite a nice concept. Slashdot has indeed implemented it quite intelligently.

Yes ... But if the software arch does not decouple the front-end and back-end, then there are essentially no APIs.

An API approach is the best approach. Later it can always be opened to public.

Yes. Another feature which is tough to design, such that it is not over annoying and yet solves the purpose. :)

While going through this discussion, I realized HN does not have any form of notification system.

How important is notification for an effective discussion platform?

Effective moderation is always a pain. The biggest curse of moderation is the inability to keep everyone happy. However, it is a necessary evil, which can not be avoided as well.

This point does give me an idea on how to handle the moderation a bit better though. Let me polish the idea, before telling more about it.

As said earlier, identities is quite important to many users. Quora has done it quite well.

However, with the anonymous feature to ask question, I have seen a rapid degradation of the quality of questions coming on Quora. I am not the only one who has felt this way. We can find a lot of people complaining about the quality of questions of late.
