I'd like to know how others think about the hypothesis of the pandemic causing the next evolution? With the proliferation of habit trackers and productivity tools. What's begun is focusing less on the spiritual and more on actions.

I have also had thoughts about this. I do think that having time to themselves made some humans (and perhaps humanity as a whole) more reflective.

But also I dont think it's sustainable. Already, most offices have been pushing workers to return. We are sliding back into the old ways.

And people no longer have as much time to reflect, to be thoughtful.

For my own journal I have chosen to capture more objective facts e.g. the actions in my day-to-day life. And place less effort on recording more subjective reactions like my mood.

I have some reservations about this.

Our moods and feelings tell us a lot about ourselves, things that we are not conscious of.

And writing about these subtle moods and feelings helps me be more conginizant of those things.

And I think what that experience generally says is that it's a bit overkill. We can do better. Like Rust.

Or OCaml perhaps ? They have taken a very pragmatic approach to fp and allow mutations because thats the pragmatic choice sometimes.

Gotta hand it to The Browser Company for doing so much for Swift lang.

Though I haven't used Swift in production I have enjoyed its ergonomics in my tinkerings with it. So I'd be so glad if Swift is able to break out of its niche into broader usage.

Word "shift" is shorter than the word "unshift". Therefore shift() makes the array shorter.

oh this one is really good

I used to like him but started to feel he keeps ranting about very similar topics a lot:

1. neovim >>> vscode

2. X > JS (X=Rust, Go, OCaml etc)

I feel he doesn't do justice to his seniority and breadth of knowledge.

He, for sure, knows a ton. Yet chooses to waste streams on noob topics like editor wars, programming language wars etc.

I much prefer Theo-T3 because he finds interesting topics and really explores tech in depth.

This is a super useful answer, i just wanted to acknowledge that.

it may not give a 100% accurate picture. but it's certainly one of the variables that plays into the health of the relationship.

Coincidentally, I am just beginning to learn Django.

I have experience with NextJS, Express and Flask.

In the past, Django had intimidated me due to having so many official-sounding files and folder structure and settings etc. So, I had just not given it too much brain cycles.

After having experience with the earlier listed frameworks, I can appreciate some of the things Django gives out of the box. It feels "industry-grade".

Hoping to make fond memories with Django just like the other experiences described here! Happy holidays everyone!

Turns out Vercel are trying to kill solutions like Tamagui because they are having a hard time supporting so many style solutions between their two huge projects RSC and Turbopack, and further the higher ups there are investors in Tailwind and are trying to consolidate styling around it for their own ecosystem benefit.

The rabbit hole goes deeper, but that’s what I’ll say.

fascinating ... the whole react ecosystem has become a bit of a mess with open source contributors and investors (hoping for a return) mixed in.
