Here's my tip. Buy your kid a CD walkman, go to a music store once a month and give them a budget. If they're lost help them get started. If they make a choice they don't like then most stores will offer trade in. Eventually they'll even form a relationship with the store workers (shout at to Mark in Truck) who will give more recommendations. My son's even started listening to radio to get more inspiration and we pumped all of our money into the local economy...

I have a sort of love hate relationhip with this stuff. On the one hand, yes tracking me is bad if I am not aware, but on the other hand I work for a company that uses it's expert knowledge to help consumers purchase the right tools for them. Ideally we would like the end product to reward us for putting them in touch with the right customer that we've used our name to help land. Much like a hairdresser would recommend a certain brand of hairspray, or a mechanic who carries their preferred oil - there is always a need for a middleman 'tell Bob I sent ya!'. Obviously this an exception to a large majority of what tracking is currently in place for, but until we drop the whole 'tracking is bad we should just shut it all down', and start to think of a fair and reasonable way for users to say 'I am ok with company B knowing that I have a relationship with company A' then these increasingly nerfarious tracking efforts will happen.

Which hooks to the steamdeck-docks hdmi and usb (for power). The screen is just a big iPad in terms of size. The dock is like a very lightweight dongle and then whatever you go for for protection of the steam deck. I have a pretty standard rucksack bag that I can happily cram all of this (along with a 13inch mbp) nuphy air and wireless mouse with. It's the best for work trips because the screen does both work mode and then serious gaming mode.

Really nice. I've only seen Deno as something hard to adopt for very little reason but this gives really great reason!

I feel for the poor souls who were accidentally captured on the recordings - they don't look too pleased. I do worry that one of my kids is going to get trampled by an adult who can't see because he's too busy slaying a dragon. We have already had a lot of near misses with people on e-scooters!

I use go a lot and also love it. I did find it odd in the early days to not have a package manager, but they seem to have mostly built on the experience of NPM and got it right.

Yeesh this really kicked off but thanks for the defence. For clarity I identify as a male programmer with Lego loving tendencies. JS is simply a tool I actually mostly enjoy using. I also use a lot of other languages, but really JS is one I'm always happy to come back to!

Well that's a judgement call I'm afraid you have wrong. JS is a great solution to some problems, as is Go, as is Rust, Ruby etc etc. I love JS for what it's good at - things like making web apps a reality, allowing a single language to be a start point for devs etc. I certainly don't use it exclusively.

Meh, I feel a little like this is dunking on Javascript for the sake of dunking on Javascript. Ever done the same with a PHP app? Go? Python?! They all have issues with versioning and this is why there are a good set of tools to deal with it - pyenv/nvm etc. It's like they've listed all the good reasons to use JS and then kicked it because it's cool to hate on JS.

I did try doing more stuff at home, but I also crave that 'decompression' between work mode and home mode. After doing a 'commute' outside the house I was so much less inclined to check if I had any more emails etc.

I have found creating a fake commute is the only way to make it work. Basically I have a walk that I do that gets me 'to' and 'from' the office (a shed in the garden) - which adds up to just under 10k steps a day. I've actually got my colleagues on board and I regularly call into standup whilst on my 'commute'. I found early on that I wasn't very motivated to get out of bed 25 mins early so I have also started making essential chores part of the routine - getting the morning coffee or food for dinner en route. I also experimented with forfits where I would have to jog 2x the commute in the evening if I didn't do the morning, which I haven't actually had to do for some time.
