Same here. I had no idea who Yepremian was before I read that quote. In addition to the video, Google led me to his story, which I found fascinating, particularly how he got into football:

I thought the "Have an impressive track record of expertise / success in the relevant industry" implied that he does in fact value business domain knowledge.

While Fat may not make you fat, all fats are not alike and some fats may be responsible for heart disease and cancer while others may actually be beneficial. Obesity itself is a complex topic and blaming it all on carbohydrates seems too simplistic. I wonder if this was the result of unintended consequences of poorly designed incentives. May be - and this is just a wild hypothesis - Google's directive to the vendor was to improve their maps data and incentives were based on their data being better than OSMs. Which leads to some of the contractors realizing that it would be easier to be "better" than OSM by making OSM worse.

I thought pegging the Argentine peso to the dollar was what made the Argentine debt crisis worse.

Economists do not necessarily have a great track record with predicting the future state of the economy. From a study by Denrel and Fang: 'Economists who had a better record at calling extreme events had a worse record in general. “The analyst with the largest number as well as the highest proportion of accurate and extreme forecasts,” they wrote, “had, by far, the worst forecasting record.' [1]

Seems to compare favorably to the Andy Rutledge redesign (http://andyrutledge.com/news-redux.php) save for the ads. The ads on the story pages don't work as well resulting in horizontal scrolling.

Time Warner and Time Warner Cable are now two independent companies. So, HBO isn't owned by a cable company, but they owe a major share of their revenues to the cable companies. HBO doesn't offer a stand alone internet service probably because they don't want to upset existing relationships with cable providers.

I'm going to take this opportunity to plug my OpenCourseWare app for boxee. You can enjoy a lot of what OpenCourseWare has to offer (including this course) from the comfort of your couch (Currently the app has courses from MIT, Yale, Stanford, Berkeley and UCLA).

What was also interesting and (probably more relevant to HN) were the scoreboard failures. The on-court scoreboard stopped at 47-47 and had to be shut down. The MatchTracker on the official website reset at 50-50 and at the end displayed 9-9 instead of 59-59. I wonder how many other online scoreboards failed and how many were equal to the task.

Those edge cases that you never expect to occur sometimes do occur. On the online scoreboard, you would think that they should have at least successfully gone to 99-99 (after that, they'd run out of physical space on the flash UI). But I suspect that for whatever reason, somebody set a hard limit at 50. I'd be curious to see if they fix it by tomorrow when play resumes.

I can see it being the next cool/hip thing. I doubt it'll really be a revolution.
